15.2 SmartPSUk2

15.2.1 Product description

There are applications where the need for water cannot be
met with solar power and water storage alone. There may
also be a need for specific seasonal demands, constant
pressure or constant flow which might not be economical-
ly met with a direct solar solution. In both of these cases the
SmartPSUk2 allows the PSk2 systems to be powered by an
AC generator or grid mains supply.
The solar array is connected to the SmartPSUk2 and the AC
supply is also connected to the Smart PSU. The SmartPSUk2
then powers the PSk2 system with DC power.
For a scheduled use of the SmartPSUk2 (e.g. to extend
pumping time) the timer function can be used to control
the power supply. If the auxiliary power source is switched
off again the SmartPSUk2 automatically returns to solar-di-
rect operation.
The SmartPSUk2 is able to power the PSk2 pump systems to
its maximum rated power.

15.2.2 Physical installation

The physical installation requirements including mounting,
heat dissipation and environmental conditions are the same
as the PSk2 controller – please refer to "8 Controller Instal-
lation" on page 18.
If situating the PSk2 controller and SmartPSUk2 together
it is advisable to mount the SmartPSUk2 to the right of the
PSk2, please refer to "Figure 59: Installation of PSk2 and
SmartPSUk2"" below. A gap of at least 5 cm should be left
between the two units to assist with air circulation.
The SmartPSUk2 is provided with a 1 m, 3 pin connection
cable which will connect the PSk2 and the SmartPSUk2, this
must be considered when placing the SmartPSUk2 next to
the PSk2 controller.
