8. Lifespan, periodic inspections,
maintenance and servicing

8.1. Lifespan

Tractel® guard trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS
guardrail systems can be used on condition
that, from their date of manufacture onwards,
they are:
• Used normally, in accordance with the recom-
mendations given in this manual.
• Inspected periodically at least once a year by
a technician. On completion of this periodic
inspection, it must be recorded in writing that
the guard trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS is
fit to be returned to service.
• Stored and transported in strict compliance
with the conditions indicated in this manual.
The results of the inspection must be en-
tered on the Inspection sheet that can be
found in the centre of this manual.
Fill in the date of the next annual in-
spection on the installation's identifica-
tion plate.
NOTE: Due to its high modularity, the
guard trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS
is an easily replaceble system. If there is any de-
fect, it must be put out of service to prevent any
use, then contact Tractel® or an authorised ser-
vice provider to define the components to be re-
placed.
8.2 Post-installation, annual inspection
and maintenance
An inspection must be carried out after installa-
tion in compliance with the inspection sheet. Fill
in the date of the next annual inspection on the
installation's identification plate (fig. 19).
IMPORTANT: Tractel® or a competent
person should check the guard trac™ WP
or guard trac™ WPS guardrail every 12
months or every time the guardrail has prevent-
ed the fall of a person or object, and issue written
authorisation for continued use. Failing this, the
guardrail should be put out of service to prevent
any further use, and then be refurbished. This
inspection should be carried out in compliance
with the method defined by Tractel®.

8.3. Equipment service

DANGER: guard trac™ WP or guard
trac™ WPS guardrail servicing is man-
datory in the following cases:

degraded state is noted.
2. When the guard trac™ WP or guard trac™
WPS has arrested a falling person.
3. When the guard trac™ WP or guard trac™
WPS shows abnormal deformation of com-
ponents.
4. When one or more counterweights show
