• The installation area must be secured either
mechanically or bonded.
• If the installation surface is mechanically
fixed, the number of attachment points must
be at least 4 per m².
• If the installation surface is bonded, bond-
ing must be done in accordance with
EN 12317-2.
DANGER: The installer must check be-
fore installation that the tilt of the guard
trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS guard-
rail must not be more than 10° from the horizon-
tal (fig. 9). They must also check that the roof
sealant is bitumen, PVC or EPDM. If the installa-
tion will be placed on another surface material,
please seek approval from Tractel first.
DANGER: When installing the guard
trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS guard-
rail the installer must ensure that the in-
stallation surface does not pose a risk of water
accumulation in the event of rain.

6.3. Thermal insulation

The 25 kg concrete counterweight generates a
pressure on the roof according to the table in
section 6.1. This pressure is generally accept-
able compared to the compressive strength
values reported by the thermal insulation
manufacturer for a 2% deformation over time.
However, before installation, the installer must
ensure that:
• The value of compressive strength indicated
by the manufacturer of the thermal insula-
tion for 2% long term deformation is at least
20 kPa.
• The surface on which the guardrails are in-
stalled should deform evenly under load.
DANGER: The presence of a lack of uni-
formity in deformation of the thermal in-
sulation could lead to a malfunction of
the guard trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS
guardrail when an operator falls. This defect
could also lead to the deterioration of the roof
sealant when an operator falls.

7. Installation

7.1. Provisions prior to installation

1. The guard trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS
guardrail must be installed by a competent
person or under the supervision of a com-
petent person.
2. The installation and use of the guard trac™
WP or guard trac™ WPS guardrail must be
in compliance with the country's laws and
regulations.
3. In case of doubt, the installer must check the
preliminary study file (Section 6).
DANGER: It is forbidden to place any
interface between the laying surface of
the counterweight and the roof sealant.
The laying surface of the counterweight has
been specially designed to ensure optimum
adhesion to the roof sealant specified in sec-
tion 3.
Before installation, check:
1. The absence of significant damage, defor-
mation or corrosion to any component of the
system and the presence and legibility of all
markings.
2. If installing previously used guard trac™
WP or guard trac™ WPS guardrail, that
it has been inspected during the past 12
months.
DANGER: In the event of an anomaly
noted during these checks, the guard
trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS guard-
rail must be put out of service to prevent any
accident. The damaged part(s) must be replaced
by parts supplied by Tractel®.

7.2. Common installation

The installer should proceed as follows:
Step 1:
Clear the installation surface on which the guard
trac™ WP or guard trac™ WPS guardrail is to
be installed.
Step 2:
Clean the cleared area using appropriate re-
sources. After cleaning, the surface must be free
of all dirt such as dust, oil, grease, mould, algae,
moss, leaves or other.
