damaged should be carefully checked to
determine that it will operate properly and
perform its intended function. Check for
alignment of moving parts, binding of moving
parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any
other condition that may affect its operation.
A guard or other part that is damaged should
be properly repaired or replaced by an
authorized service center unless indicated
elsewhere in this manual.

Intended Use
WARNING
■ This trimmer is designed for light-duty cutting
of grass and similar material in yards and gar‐
dens around the home. Use of the trimmer for
operations different than intended could result
in serious injury or death.
► Use the trimmer only for light-duty trimming
tasks around the home and garden.
► Cut grass and similar material only. Do not
use the trimmer for cutting brush, shrubs,
bushes or other types of heavy vegetation.
■ Improper use could result in personal injury or
property damage, including damage to the
trimmer.
► Use the trimmer, battery and charger only
as described in this manual.
► Never attempt to modify or override the
trimmer's controls or safety devices in any
way.
► Never use a trimmer that has been modified
or altered from its original design.
■ The STIHL AK series battery is designed for
use only with compatible STIHL power tools
and may be charged only with a STIHL AL
101, AL 301 or AL 501 charger.

Operator
WARNING
■ Working with the power tool can be strenuous.
The operator must be in good physical condi‐
tion and mental health. To reduce the risk of
personal injury:
► Check with your doctor before using the
power tool if you have any health condition
that may be aggravated by strenuous work.
► Do not operate the power tool while under
the influence of any substance (drug, alco‐
hol or medication, etc.) that might impair
vision, balance, dexterity or judgment.
► Be alert. Do not operate the power tool
when you are tired. Take a break if you
become tired.
► Do not permit minors to use the power tool.
■ According to STIHL's current knowledge, the
electric motor of this power tool should not
interfere with a pacemaker.
► However, persons with a pacemaker or
other implanted medical device should con‐
sult their physician and device manufac‐
turer before operating the power tool.

Personal Protective Equipment
WARNING
■ Even a properly installed and adjusted deflec‐
tor may not protect the operator from all for‐
eign objects thrown back by the cutting attach‐
ment. Thrown objects may also ricochet and
strike the operator. To reduce the risk of per‐
sonal injury:
► Always wear proper clothing and protective
apparel, including proper eye protection.
■ Loss of control and severe cut injuries may
result if hair, clothing or apparel make contact
with the moving cutting attachment or other‐
wise become entangled in the components of
the trimmer. To reduce the risk of severe per‐
sonal injury:
► Wear sturdy and snug-fitting clothing
that also allows complete freedom of
movement.
► Wear overalls or long pants made of
heavy material to help protect your
legs. Do not wear shorts.
► Avoid loose-fitting jackets, scarves, neck‐
ties, flared or cuffed pants, jewelry and any
other apparel that could be caught on
branches, brush or the moving cutting
attachment.
► Secure hair above shoulder level before
starting work.
