hoist flashes (see also 5.4 Indicator light and audio signal,
page 10). When this happens, there is usually sufficient
power to lower the patient.
It is not possible to use the hoist while the battery
is charging.
1. Finish the current lift in progress
If the current lift in process discharges the battery
completely, an external backup battery may be used to
temporarily power the lift. See 5.6 Using the external
back-up battery, page 11.
2. Move the ceiling hoist to the charging station.
3. Assure that the hand control and charging station are
clean and dry before charging
4. Place the hand control into the charging station.
A yellow indicator lamp on the charger indicates
the hand control is connected. The indicator lamp
illuminates red while charging.
5. When fully charged, the indicator lamp on the charger
turns green.
As long as the ceiling hoist is not in use, leave the hand
control in the charging station.
6. To use the ceiling hoist, remove the hand control from
the charger.
Keeping the batteries charged guarantees hoist
functionality and maintains the battery to ensure a
long lifetime.
If the audible indicator beeps and the blue indicator
on the hoist flashes after the hoist has been fully
charged and only been in use for a short period of
time, the battery may need exercise or replacement.
See 7.5 Battery Maintenance, page 16.
If the ceiling hoist will not be used for more than
4 weeks, Invacare recommends disconnecting the
charger and pulling the emergency stop.
The charger is connected to the mains with a mains
plug. Make sure that the mains plug is accessible
and can be unplugged if required.

5.6 Using the external back-up battery

If the ceiling hoist has to be used immediately with its
battery discharged, an external back-up battery can be used.
Use the external back-up battery only as an exception
and when absolutely necessary. The external back-up
battery is available as an accessory.

1. Insert the plug of the external back-up battery A into
aperture B underside of the hoist. The external back-up
battery should hang freely during patient transfer.
2. Operate the ceiling hoist as described in chapter 5.3
Operating the ceiling hoist, page 10.
3. Recharge the external back-up battery in order to have
it fully charged for the next usage.
Charging the external battery:
1. Place the plug in the charger socket (a special adapter
is necessary).
2. The LED light turns green to indicate the unit is fully
charged (approx. charging time 2 hours).

5.7 Emergency stop

The emergency stop function is used to stop the patient
from lowering or lifting if the ceiling hoist does not stop
or react to the hand control.
1. Pull and release the red emergency strap A underside
of the hoist B to activate the emergency stop.
The ceiling hoist stops any lifting or lowering movement
immediately.
IMPORTANT!
When the red emergency strap has been pulled,
the hoist functions, including the end stop, are
deactivated. The blue indicator light turns off.
– To activate the hoist functions again, reset
the emergency stop. See 5.9 Resetting the
emergency stop or lowering feature, page 12.

5.8 Emergency lowering

The emergency lowering function is used to lower the
patient only if the hoist has stopped working.
