AMX Switch Series Installer/User Guide
with four users accessing four different servers is a 4 x 4 matrix. Eight users accessing 10 different
servers would be an 8 x 10 matrix.
Sharing
If two or more users need access to the same server or serial device, they can share access through
the AMX Series switch. Sharing enables multiple users to switch to the same server at the same
time. All connected users can see the server's video, but only one user can enter data at any
given moment.
LDAP user authentication
The AMX Series switch supports the (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) LDAP user
authentication mode. LDAP provides the Active Directory for username and password
authentication. Refer to the AMWorks software online Help program on your installation CD for
instructions on configuring LDAP on your AMX switch.
SNMP interface
The AMX Series switch supports the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to remotely
monitor the switch via the ethernet port. Once configured, the SNMP enables network performance
monitoring and provides attachment and connection information on servers and user stations in the
AMX switching system.
Extended keyboard support
The AMX switching system supports the Pinnacle FAK keyboard for the AMX5120 and above
user stations. The firmware of the AMIQ-PS/2 module used in your system must be compatible
with the Pinnacle FAK keyboard to ensure keyboard operability.
Broadcast NVision Router control
The AMX switching system offers the capability to act as a control plane for specialized broadcast
and media industry video and audio routers through the AMWorks software. Both standalone and
backup routers can be connected to the AMX switching system to support router redundancy. Refer
to the AMWorks software online Help program on your installation CD for instructions on
configuring the NVision Router.
Seamless cascading
The AMX switching system enables users to connect to servers attached to Avocent switches
cascaded below the AMX switch through its local port. Table 1.1 lists both Avocent and non-
Avocent KVM switches that can be seamlessly cascaded in an AMX switching system.
Seamless cascading enables you to connect Avocent KVM switches from a single user interface
On-Screen Display (OSD) by configuring an AMIQ module as a Multiple Device Mode (MDM)
AMIQ module. Non-Avocent KVM switches can be cascaded in an AMX switching system, but
must be activated through the particular switch OSD to continue the operation.
