USE AND MANAGEMENT

6.1
Starting
It is forbidden to set the machine at work unless all protections with which it must be equipped in order to comply with the safety
requirements, have been correctly mounted.
GB
ATTENTION
Before starting, always prime the pump by venting off the air in the suction pipes and in the pump itself.
Carry out the following operations if the pump is installed above water level:
1) remove the plugs from the delivery and suction ports and pour in water;
2) close the suction plug when water begins to spill out;
3) close the delivery port when the pump is completely full.
ATTENTION
Consult paragraph 6.2 "Running and inspections" when inspecting a pump that has been started for the first time.
If the starting unit is unable to start (no "running"), do not insist as this could only damage the component. Identify and eliminate
the malfunction.
If an indirect starting system is used, the starting transient must be brief and must never last more than a few seconds.
General prescriptions for employ of INVERTER
When starting and/or during use, the minimum frequency must not be less than 70% of the rated value.
The motor must be ordered with the type of electric winding that suits the use required.
Voltage gradient
Harmonic content of the voltage ≤ 1.5 %.
Harmonic content of the current ≤ 4 %.
Conditions that must be complied with regardless of the length of the power cables.
6.2
Running and inspections: ATTENTION
Once installed, the product will require no particular maintenance. To ensure continuously regular operation it is, however, necessary to
periodically make regular preventive maintenance inspections at least once every 1000÷1500 hours service, during which it is necessary to
make sure:
- that the values given in the operative brief are within the normal field of use (consult the chapter on "Operative data" and the technical or
commercial documentation supplied by Caprari S.p.A.);
- adjust the packing gland where installed, by working evenly on both nuts in order to ensure a slight dripping during operation;
- make sure (especially when an internal combustion engine is installed) that the rotation speed is not excessive (consult the "Operating limits"
table in chapter 10 "Technical data");
- make sure, if the unit is fitted with an internal combustion engine, that operation is not excessively irregular owing, for example, to low rate
operation;
- if the unit has an electric motor, make sure that the power draw (particularly during the initial operating phases, never exceeds the data plate
values. Failing this, throttle the delivery by means of the sluice valve on the delivery pipe;
- make sure that the flow rate and operating pressure are within the normal field of use (consult the technical or commercial documentation
supplied by Caprari S.p.A.);
- change the grease in the bearings (type UNIREX-N3-ESSO for high temperatures, or equivalent) after every 15.000 hours service or every two
years, remembering to fill the housing within 10% of full;
- clean the cooling system of the motor or engine;
- if the pump has a flexible coupling, check the wear on the rubber inserts. With the machine at a standstill, make sure that the relative angular
movement between the two half-couplings is not double the initial value. Fit the protection on the transmission unit before starting the unit again.
After a first installation or maintenance work and following a brief running period, make sure that the pump is perfectly aligned with the motor or
engine (the procedure is described in paragraph 5.3 "Mechanical connections", points 7, 8 and 10).
If operating irregularities are detected, proceed as indicated in this manual (consult the "Troubleshooting" chapter).
6.3
Maintenance
Routine maintenance and repairs must only be carried out by specialized personnel.
Extraordinary maintenance and repairs must only be carried out by authorized specialized workshops.
The operations should be carried out in a clean place in compliance with normal regulations governing mechanical work.
Removal
If the product must be disassembled, make sure that:
1) the motor or engine is unable to start accidentally;
2) the sluice valves on the suction and delivery pipes are closed;
3) the pump is not subject to residual pressure;
4) the weight of the various components is firmly supported as they are demounted (consult chapter 4 "Storage and handling").
Replacing the packing seal
1) remove the packing gland adjuster nuts and allow the packing gland to slide;
2) replace the seal material;
3) ATTENTION
adjust the gland of the packing seal whilst the machine is operating, working evenly on both nuts so as to ensure a slight
dripping during operation. Proceed with extreme care since the work must be carried out near rotating parts;
4) restore the initial conditions.
Replacing the mechanical seal
Contact an authorized after-sales service center.
