3. Processing
It is mandatory to wear face protection / safety glasses and special
protective gloves, e.g. Dermatril
nitrile (REF 162-907-00, 162-908-00 and 162-909-00) to avoid
direct skin contact when processing Orthocryl
refer also to the corresponding safety data sheets.
3.1. Plaster model / plastic model
Plaster models must be vented during the first step in processing.
Otherwise, air bubbles from the plaster model could lift the acrylic
or penetrate into the acrylic. Models should therefore be placed in
lukewarm water for 10 – 25 minutes, depending on the quality of
the plaster, until no more air bubbles rise from the plaster.
This step is not necessary in the case of plastic models.
When working with plaster models, we recommend using a special
separating medium (REF 162-800-00) in addition after soaking in
order to attain a smooth, silky basal surface on the appliance and
to avoid discolorations and plaster inclusions.
Plastic models must be given a layer of separation medium before
Orthocryl
is applied in order to prevent the plastics from sticking.
®
We recommend the 3D separating medium (REF 162-801-00). This
is, however, not availabe in the USA.
3.1.1 Application
(REF 162-800-00) on plaster models
Blow the soaked model carefully with compressed air.
Apply the separating medium from the dosing bottle
(REF 162-100-00) directly on the soaked, slightly damp model
and spread evenly using a brush.
Stand the model on its back so that excess fluid can drain away.
