6 Measuring procedure

The AirWatch sensor unit monitors the ambient air sucked in independently via the
integrated fan for the number and size of the particles contained in it. By including the
specific density, the size and number of the particles can be converted into a
gravimetric unit.

6.1 Measurement range

The AirWatch measurement range begins at approx. 17µm and extends down to
0.1µm.

6.2 Particle count

AirWatch converts the particle count data into a tangible value. This is always done
relative to the number of particles in a cubic meter of air and the resultant findings
can definitely be in the region of a few million. The particle data also represents the
total of all particles, regardless of their size.

6.3 Gravimetric measurements

As mentioned previously, AirWatch uses specific density information on the number
and size of the particles so it can use this to convert the measurements into a
gravimetric unit.
By changing this specific densities, the AirWatch can be calibrated for different dust
types.
However, this is sensible only if a given situation requires a change to the specific
density. Usually, there is no need to change the specific density.

6.4 Measuring accuracy

With the ability to determine precisely both the number and the size of the particles in
question, patently higher accuracy is achieved when converting the measurements
into a gravimetric unit, compared with conventional optical particle counters.
