3. Warnings and Instructions

To assure a safe handling, please read the following information carefully before using the device.

• The equipment must only be used by trained personnel in accordance with the documentation
supplied by the manufacturer.
• Damaged ear tips must be discarded in order to avoid injuries of the ear canal or wrong measure-
ment results.
• Damaged earphone cushions must be replaced. Please contact your local audiometer service.
• It is recommended that parts which are in direct contact with the patient (e.g. earphone cushions)
are subjected to a standard disinfection procedure between patients. This includes physically clean-
ing by use of a recognized disinfectant approved for the application to human skin. Please follow the
individual manufacturer's instructions for the use of the disinfectant to provide an appropriated level
of cleanliness.
• The probe tube must be kept clean to secure a good measurement. Cerumen etc. must be removed
from the probe tube by means of the cleaning wire (nylon wire) which can be found in the BET60 SPL
Audiomety Eartips box [p/n 87 86 167] provided with the Unity 2. For hygienic reasons a new probe
tube must be used for each new patient.

"No modification of the equipment is allowed"
Devices connected to the Unity 2, which are powered by a mains connection,
need to comply either with IEC 60601-1:2005 or alternatively for IT equipment to
the IEC 60950 standard.
To avoid risk of electric shock, this equipment must only be connected to a mains supply
with protective earth.
To avoid the hazard of explosion or extensive fire, do not use the equipment in areas
where explosive gases (e.g. anesthetic gas) or an enriched oxygen atmosphere may
occure.
The electrical installation of the relevant room must comply with the appropriate local
requirements for connecting medical devices equipment.
Avoid close proximity to radio transmitters or cellular phone antennas. The safe function-
ality of the equipment could be influenced.
Use only original accessories and spare parts from the manufacturer to avoid false
measurements and injuries to the patient.
Be aware that sound levels above 100 dB HL can be dangerous for the hearing ability of
the patient. Be sure to use only stimulation intensities, which are acceptable for the
patient. Be especially careful with patients not able to react appropriately.
When connecting or disconnecting the headset to the audiometer strong sonic peaks can
appear. Do not connect or disconnect the headset, while it is worn by the patient.
Do not cover the vent holes on the Control Unit to prevent the device overheating.
When connecting external microphones, speakers or any Audio-Device use only cable
connections using the type of plugs (2-pole [mono] or 3-pole [stereo]) indicated at the
sockets. The use of a non appropriate plug can cause damage to the equipment.
In order to maintain hygienic safety do not re-use probe tubes. Always use fresh probe
tubes with every new patient.
