4.4.3 Connecting the keyboard (optional)

The Unity 2 system can be controlled by any standard
PC-keyboard. There is no specific keyboard driver required.
Any available PC-keyboard can be used.
The keyboard is connected either to one of the computer
USB ports or alternatively to the USB-A port located on the
rear panel of the Control Unit. This would allow to sepa-
rately install the computer and the measurement system
in two different rooms and use only one USB cable for
connection.
The optionally available Unity 2 keyboard is a standard PC-
keyboard with additional special purpose keys. The special
purpose keys are damped to avoid making a noise when
pressing it down. The two rotary encoders on both sides
of the key panel and the special purpose keys support
easy control of the Unity application software. The Unity 2
keyboard can also be used in parallel to any other PC
keyboard.
The Unity application software provides the ability to
PS/2
define special functions for each of the keys, which allows
to customize the keyboard to the individual habitants.
On the rear side of the keyboard there are two different
USB®
connectors, one for PS/2 and one for USB connection.
A PS/2 and a USB cable are included in the shipment.

4.4.4 Connecting the Audiometry Control Board

In addition to the Unity 2 keyboard an Audiometry Control
Board is available as an optional accessory. This control
board allows access to all audiometric functions working
similarly as stand-alone audiometers. This control board is
USB driven and can be used in parallel to any other PC-
keyboard. In case of having only limited space close to the
sound booth, this control board helps to do audiometry
while staying in close contact with the patient, even if
the computer is located outside the room.
