6.2 Troubleshooting – Unity 2 Audiometer
Problem
"No Hardware connected!"
Signal not audible in insert earphones or
TDH headphones
Signal not audible in clinician monitor
headphones
Signal from CD/mp3 file too soft
Signal from CD/mp3 file not audible
WRS scoring is not possible for live voice
presentation (e.g., Stimulus = Mic1)
During recorded speech presentation, speech
babble is heard instead of word list

Solution
• Ensure the USB cable is connected to the Unity 2 system and PC and that Unity 2 drivers
have been installed
• Ensure system is turned on
• Ensure control unit is properly docked into test box
(In case you do not have Hardware connected, press OK and work in "Demo mode"
• Ensure control unit is properly docked into test box
• Ensure transducers are inserted into the jacks for which they have been calibrated.
Calibration configuration can be verified under Settings > General)
• Ensure audiometer is connected (Settings > Connect Audiometer)
• Check that right channel ("Q" key) or left channel ("P" key) have not been toggled off
(the word "Right" should be surrounded in red during signal presentation for that ear;
the word "Left" should be surrounded in blue during signal presentation)
• Verify white plug of boom mic headset is plugged into "Monitor", and that grey plug is
plugged into "Mic 1/TF"
• Adjust monitor sensitivity (Settings > Sensitivity > Monitor)
• Verify monitor is not muted (Settings > Sensitivity > Monitor)
• Verify inline VC on monitor headset is turned up
• Set sensitivity for output (CD 1/2) so that 1K calibration track on
CD displays VU meter level of "0" (Settings > Sensitivity > CD 1/2)
• Verify stimulus level is at an audible level for patient
• Verify sensitivity for output (CD 1/2)
• Specify test side stimulus as CD 1 or CD 2
• Ensure the audio patch cable is connected from stereo CD/mp3 source to two mono
RCA input jacks on back of Unity 2 audiometer
• Right-click in area of track list for media playback and choose "Play Options > Disabled"
• RCA plugs are reversed for CD 1/2 on unit
• CD 1 is not selected for "Stimulus"
Solution
• Ensure control unit is properly docked into test box
• Ensure USB cable is connected to Unity 2 system and PC
• Ensure system is turned on
• Replace/calibrate probe tube (Measurements > Calibrate Probe Tube)
• Ensure that insitu reference mic is appropriate distance from speaker (~18 – 36")
