4.4.5 Connection of sound field speakers

The Unity 2 system can be equiped with up to six sound-field speakers. The internal two-channel power amplifier
drives 20 W into 4 Ohms. Four more speakers can be connected to the RCA-sockets located on the rear panel of the
Control Unit (SP 1 – 4). An external amplifier would be required.
The output of the power amplifier is located on the rear panel of the Docking Station and provides either two pairs of
live cable clamps or two 6.3 mm jack-plug sockets on the rear side of the Docking Station.
In undocked mode, when just using the Control Unit alone, two speakers can be connected to the top-panel of the
Control Unit by using 6.3 mm jack plugs. Alternatively the test box speaker can be used as a sound field speaker too.
Parallel use of other connected speakers is not possible with this choice.
The speaker outputs, that should be available must be determined and calibrated in the calibration software to make
them available.
The output of the sound field speakers needs first to be calibrated by using the calibration software
Thorcalibration.exe. The selection of using either the speaker outputs FF1/FF2 or the testbox speaker
is defined in the calibration software. Only calibrated outputs are available in the application software.
Sound field calibration needs to be done on-site and can be performed by using a calibrated sound
level meter. To make the changes effective, the Unity 2 system must be first turned OFF and then ON
again.

4.5 Installation of the application software

The detailed installation workflow for the application software and the recommended system requirements are
described in the CD-booklet. These requirements may be updated without notice whenever a new software release
becomes available. Please read it carefully before installing a new software version to your computer.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent software version available at the time of instal-
lation to be up to date with the most recent status of functionality support and error fixing. Please con-
tact your Siemens customer service to receive the latest version (see contact details in chap. 12).
The primary operation functions of the software are described in the Unity SW Short Guide. A more detailed description
of all the software-based functions you can find in the Unity SW Reference book, available as electronic copy (PDF) on
the Installation CD.
The standard installation directory is C:\unity\u6app if not otherways defined.
The following software components will be installed on your computer:
• Audiometer Module (AUD6.exe)
• REM Module (REM6.exe)
• Hearing Intrument Analyser Module (HIT6.exe)
• Calibration Module (Thorcalibration.exe)
All software modules, except of the calibration module can be used in Demo-mode, as long as no hardware is
connected. The connection to the hardware module is only possible, if a valid license key has been entered during
