4.1.3 Docking Station

The Docking Station is a specific device which can be
combined with a Control Unit to form a complete Unity 2
system. The upper part of the Docking Station contains
the test box, which can be accessed by opening the lid.
The box of the Docking Station does not include any
accessories or parts other than the device itself. All parts
necessary for the tesbox are also included in the accessory
box of the Control Unit when a testbox has been ordered
with the system.
If multiple Unity 2 Control Units or Docking Stations are in house, care must be taken not to mix them.
A particular Control Unit must only be used with the Docking Station the reference and measurement
microphone has been calibrated with. If the Control Units and/or the Docking Stations are mixed up,
the resulting system will be out of calibration.

4.2 Functionality of the system

The Unity 2 system can be used in two different modes, the docked and the undocked mode. This docking concept was
developed to allow more flexible use of the system and to be able to take out the Control Unit easily for off site visits,
where only an Audiometer or Real Ear would be necessary. Therefore Unity 2 supports two independent sets of calibra-
tion data which allows running two different sets of transducers and headphones, one set for the use in the shop, and
the other set used for off-site visits. The calibration set active will automatically be switched with the mode change.
Each of these transducer sets need to be calibrated separately.
To control the Unity 2 measuring system, a USB connection to a computer, which has the Unity Application Software
installed, is necessary. An suitable USB-cable is provided as a part of the shipment. The measuring system itselfs has no
means to control its functionality except the On/Off-switch located on the front of the Control Unit.

4.2.1 Docked mode

In the docked mode the Control Unit is inserted in the Docking Station and the blue docking indicator light lights up
once the power is turned on. In this case all connections from the top side of the Control Unit are routed to the back-
side of the Docking Station including the mains supply and the USB connection. The connections of the rear panel of
the Control Unit are accessible from the backside slot of the Docking Station also when it is docked. The calibration data
has been switched to the transducer set calibrated for the docked mode.

4.2.2 Undocked mode

In the undocked mode the Control Unit is used without the Docking Station and all transdrucers and all connections
including the main supply cable are directly applied to the Control Unit. Only the green Power indicator light lights up
now, once the power is turned on. The calibration data has been switched to the transducer set calibrated for the
undocked mode.

4.2.3 Disconnecting the system from mains

To permanently disconnect the system from the mains power supply, unplug the mains power cable from either the
Docking Station or the Control Unit, whatever applies. Turning the main power switch to OFF (O) will not completely
disconnect the device from the mains.
