PREPARATION FOR MEASUREMENT

·
Wind noise across the microphone will bring additional extraneous noise. If you use the meter in
windy ambience it is recommended to use the wind screen in order to avoid undesirable signals.
·
In order to achieve a more accurate measurement result you should avoid that there are persons or
objects between the instrument and the source of the noise that could cause unexpected sound
reflections.
·
Calibrate the instrument before any operation if it has not been in use for a longer period.
·
Do not store and use the intrument in hot and humid conditions.
·
Keep the microphone dry and avoid severe vibration.
·
If you do not use the instrument for a longer period remove the battery and store the instrument
in dry environment.
CARRY OUT A MEASUREMENT
·
Power on the instrument and select the desired response time and weighting. If the sound source
consists of short bursts or only catching sound peaks set the response time to FAST. To measure an
average sound use the SLOW setting.
·
Select the A-weighting for a general sound level measurement or the C-weighting for measuring the
sound level of special acoustic material.
·
Select the desired level range Hi/Lo.
·
Hold the instrument comfortably in your hand or fix it onto a tripod and point the microphone to-
wards the suspected noise source; the sound level value will be displayed.
·
If the MAX (maximum hold) mode is chosen the instrument captures and holds the maximum noise
level for a long period using any of the time weightings and ranges.
·
If the HOLD (data hold ) mode is chosen the HOLD function freezes the current reading of the
display. Press the HOLD button to activate or to deactivate the HOLD function.
