ON/OFF Operation
To turn the lens on, simply press the ON button. The lens
automatically turns off 30 minutes after the last arc. The lens
can also be turned off manually by pressing the ON button for
two seconds.
Checking for Proper Lens Operation:
Speedglas Utility and 9000F Lenses
Perform Daily
1) Make sure the lens is not exposed to any strong light. Look
through the lens while pressing the ON button. The lens
should change from the off state to the light state. If the lens
does not turn light, replace the batteries and re-test.
2) In the light state, the lens will be slightly tinted (shade 3).
3) Place the lens within 2 inches (5 cm) of an unshielded 40 watt
fluorescent light source; the lens should go dark. If the lens
remains light, move closer to the light and re-test the lens.
4) Turn the lens away from the light; the lens should go
light again.
NOTE: If the lens does not function as described above,
immediately contact your supervisor or Hornell representative.

Speedglas 9000XF, 9000V and 9000X Lenses
Perform Daily
1) Make sure the lens is not exposed to any strong light.
9000XF lens: turn the sensitivity switch to the Auto Sensitivity
setting.
9000V and 9000X lenses: put the shade knob on any "gold
number" shade.
While looking through the lens, push the ON button briefly.
The lens should go into the light state (i.e. shade 3); if it does
not, replace the batteries and re-test.
2) In the light state, the lens will be slightly tinted (shade 3).
3) Place the lens within 2 inches (5 cm) of an unshielded 40 watt
fluorescent light source; the lens should go dark. If the lens
remains light, move closer to the light and re-test the lens.
4) Turn the lens away from the light; the lens should go light
again.
5) 9000XF lens: turn the sensitivity switch to the Manual
Sensitivity setting.
9000V and 9000X lenses: turn the shade knob to the "red 9"
position.
With it directed away from the bright fluorescent light, look
through the lens; if it remains light, proceed to step 6; if the
lens goes dark, turn the sensitivity adjustment knob counter-
clockwise just enough to make the lens go light; if the lens
still remains dark, you may be exposed to too much light, so
re-test away from bright light sources.
6) While looking through the lens, turn towards a light source.
The lens should go dark. If the lens remains light, find a
brighter light source and re-test the lens.
NOTE: If the lens does not function as described above,
immediately contact your supervisor or Hornell representative.
