Description of Speedglas
The Speedglas
®
9000 helmet features patent-protected aerody-
namically-designed exhaust vents proven to remove stale, exhaled
air. For welders who keep their helmets in the down position for
prolonged periods of time, the build-up of carbon dioxide (CO
greatly reduced compared to traditional helmet designs.
Laboratory results, as well as extensive field tests, confirm the
helmet's breathability, with welders experiencing lower humidity,
less heat, and reduced "stuffiness." As a result, welders feel more
energetic and "clearheaded."
Exhaled air is directed through four aerodynamic vents. It then
exhausts through two thin openings created between the double-
shell construction of the heat-reflecting silver front panel and
the black helmet.
The welder's natural
breathing action directs
the exhaust air-flow; no
moving parts are involved.
Fresh, incoming air is not
drawn through special
vents; instead, it chooses
its path of least resis-
tance—the area around
the welder's neck, which
is typically further away
from the smoke plume.
NOTE: The complete
Speedglas Utility Lens & Helmet package is not sold with
the (vented) Speedglas 9000 helmet.

Description of Speedglas Lenses
Speedglas
®
welding lenses automatically change from a light
shade to a dark shade when an arc is struck. The lenses return to
the light state when welding stops.
The dark shade number of your Speedglas lens model must match
your application; see page 15 for a Shade Guide.
Lens Model: For Use With These Arc Welding Processes:
Utility
MIG (GMAW) and Stick (SMAW) only.
9000F
Can be used with all arc welding processes,
9000XF
including MIG, Stick, TIG, Plasma Arc and
9000V
Carbon Arc.
9000X
Speedglas lenses can also be used for gas welding when in the
OFF state, which is shade 5-6.
Since the welder can see the welding electrode in the exact
start position, the risk of inaccurate striking and poor welding
is reduced. Both hands are free at all times, improving weld
accuracy and quality.
Speedglas lenses protect the user's eyes against harmful
ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation during the entire
welding process, even in the light state. A fail-safe UV/IR filter
blocks harmful radiation and is entirely independent of both the
lens shade level and the lens' electronics.
If the batteries or electronics fail, the lens defaults to the OFF
state of shade 5-6.
