12 Shutting Off the Engine

Shutting Off the Engine
WARNING
■ The cutting attachment will continue to move
for a short while after the throttle trigger is
released. To avoid serious or fatal injury, avoid
contact with the moving cutting attachment. To
reduce the risk of personal injury from uninten‐
ded activation or unauthorized use, shut off
the engine and ensure the cutting attachment
has stopped before transporting the unit or
putting it down.
To shut off the engine:

► Release the throttle trigger (1) and throttle trig‐
ger lockout (2).
► Depress the stop switch (3).
The engine stops.
The cutting attachment will continue to move for
a short time after the throttle trigger is released.
Take care to avoid contact after releasing the
throttle trigger and when setting down the trim‐
mer / brushcutter.
Depress the stop switch to shut off the engine.
After the stop switch is used to stop the engine, it
automatically springs back and the ignition sys‐
tem returns to the run position. If the engine is
warm, it may be possible to start it by simply pull‐
ing the starter rope with no further adjustments.

13.1
Testing the Controls
Before starting work, confirm that the throttle trig‐
ger (1), throttle trigger lockout (2) and stop
switch (3) are undamaged and functioning prop‐
erly.

WARNING
■ To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries,
keep hands, feet and other parts of the body
away from the cutting attachment. Do not
touch the cutting attachment while the engine
is running. Never touch the moving cutting
attachment with your hand or any part of your
body,

To test the controls:
► Shut off the engine,
► Attempt to depress the throttle trigger.
If the trigger can be depressed without first
depressing the throttle trigger lockout, take the
trimmer / brushcutter to an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer to be repaired before use.
Stopping the Engine
► Start the engine,
► Depress the stop switch.
The engine should stop.
► If the engine does not stop, move the choke
lever to position
before use.
