– EN 341 class A: high capacity descender.

– The equipment is identical to the PPE covered
by the CE type examination issued by APAVE
SUDEUROPE, CS60193, F-13322 Marseille, Cedex
16, France, identified by number 0082, and tested
in accordance with standards EN 341, class A dated
1993 and EN 1496 class A dated 2006.

4. Function and description

4.1. Functions
4.1.1. Descender function
This function enables lowering 1 or 2 persons at a
controlled speed of between 0.5 and 2 m/s by means
of a centrifugal braking system which operates in both
directions. The device can be used in pendular mode.
The descender function is provided on all the models of
the Tractel
derope™ product line.

4.1.2. Recovery function
This function enables the person to be rescued to be
evacuated from above.
– It can be achieved using a hand wheel fitted with a
retractable handle, operated by the rescuer. The
ascent speed is approximately 1m/min.
– It can be achieved using a hand tool like a drill / driver
tightened onto the six sided centre of the pinion of
the hand wheel. The ascent speed is approximately
5m/min.
This feature is present on derope™ devices UP A / B
UP / UP K / UP R.

By running the free strand of the device rope in the cord
guide, the rescue operator can manually slow down
or stop the descent. To keep the device stopped, the
free strand must be inserted in the clam cleat on the
unit. This function is provided on all the models of the
Tractel
derope™ product line.

4.1.4. Rigging function
4.1.4.1. derope™ STD and UP A descenders
These 2 descenders are secured by means of a
connector at the top of the unit fastened to any
fastening point complying with the requirements of
standard EN 795 or to any structure having a minimum
capacity of 10 kN (1 ton).
4.1.4.2. derope™ UP B descender
This descender is equipped with a mounting bracket for
ladders. The bracket must be locked on two consecutive
bars of the ladder and must be secured with the belay
lanyard as instructed in § 6.
4.1.4.3. derope™ UP K descender
This descender is equipped with a support bracket for
bar or ladder. The bracket must be locked and secured
using the belay lanyard as instructed in § 6.
4.1.4.4. derope™ UP R descender
This descender is equipped with a mounting bracket
designed exclusively for mounting on the Tractel
tracpode rigging tripod. The bracket must be locked on
one of the tripod legs using its fastening pin.

4.2. Accessories

The special bag for derope™ descender with reel is
designed to receive the derope™ STD or derope™
UP A descender with up to 80 meters of rope. The bag
ensures easy transport and handling of the equipment
for rescue interventions. derope™ devices can be
equipped with an optional reel for unwinding, thus
removing the risk of entanglement of the lanyard when
put into use.
