11. Before each use, the rescue operator must
visually inspect the derope™ descender to ensure
that it is in good operating condition, as well as
the associated Personal Protective Equipment,
that such equipment is compatible and correctly
set up and connected in compliance with the
recommendations given in their respective user
manuals.
12. Before using the equipment covered by this manual,
ensure there is no obstacle along the evacuation
path, and no risk of contact with a dangerous object.
13. Before using the descender, refer to the rescue plan
prepared by the person in charge of the intervention
site.
14. Tractel S.A.S recommends that each rescue
operator be equipped with a communication device
in order to be able to trigger an emergency call in
the event of an incident.
15. In a fall-arrest system, it is indispensable to check
the free space under the rescue operator, on the
work location before each use, so that in the event
of a fall, there is no risk of hitting the ground. The fall
path must be checked to be free of any obstacles
which could be hit in the event of a fall. The fall-
arrest safety height must be sufficient.
16. The equipment covered by this manual is suitable
for use at temperatures of between -35°C and 50°C.
At negative temperatures (-35°C to 0°C), you must
ensure that the equipment is dry, including the rope.
17. When using the equipment covered in this manual,
you must observe, in compliance with § 7-1:
– The maximum load.
– The minimum load of 30 kg.
– The maximum descent height.
– The number of repeated descents.
– The combined height of the descents.
18. If the combined height of the descents reaches the
specified limit, the equipment must be overhauled
(see § 10-1).
19. The derope™ UP R descender must only be used
with the Tractel
tracpode tripod. Any similar use
®
with a tripod of another source is prohibited.
20. After each use of the derope™ descender, the
descender and the associated Personal Protective
Equipment concerned must be inspected before it is
returned to service. The inspection must be carried
out in compliance with the instructions given in
this manual by a qualified technician giving written
authorization for re-use of the equipment. Should
any defect be observed, or should any doubt arise
as to the condition of the derope™ descender or of
an associated Personal Protective Equipment, the
defective equipment must be consigned to prevent
any further use prior to repair, on completion of
which re-use must be authorized in writing by
a qualified, trained technician. Any derope™
descender showing any damage or for which there
is any doubt as to its safe utilization condition,
should be returned to Tractel S.A.S or to one of its
approved distributors.
21. The derope™ descender and the associated
Personal Protective Equipment must be inspected
periodically at least once every 12 months by
a qualified technician trained for this purpose
and qualified to authorize in writing re-use of
the equipment. This training can be provided by
Tractel S.A.S. The inspection must be conducted
in compliance with directive 89/656/CEE and with
the instructions given in this manual and in the
maintenance manual.
22. Tractel S.A.S declines all responsibility for any
consequences arising from disassembly of the
derope™ descender or any changes made to
the unit without express Tractel

a non-authorized person.

if the derope™ descender is sold outside the first
