textual   M ETAR   a nd   T AF   w eather   r eports   a re   a vailable   f or   a irports   t hat   r eport   s uch   i nformation.  
The   S V-­‐ADSB-­‐470   r eceives   t raffic   a nd   w eather   v ia   t he   9 78   M Hz   U AT   A DS-­‐B  
frequencies,   w hich   a re   o nly   u tilized   b y   t he   F AA's   A DS-­‐B   s ystem.   T herefore,   t raffic  
and   w eather   a re   o nly   a vailable   i n   t he   U S   ( and   o ther   p laces   t he   F AA   m ay   h ave   A DS-­‐B  
 
ground   s tations,   i ncluding   G uam,   P uerto   R ico,   a nd   t he   U S   V irgin   I slands).   T he   S V-­‐
ADSB-­‐470   w ill   n ot   w ork   o utside   t hese   a reas.  
Weather   i nformation   i s   t ransmitted   c ontinuously   o ver   a   d ata   l ink   f rom   t he   g round,  
but   r eception   o f   w eather   d ata   i s   d ependent   o n   A DS-­‐B   g round   s tation  
proximity/coverage,   s ignal   s trength,   a nd   o ther   e nvironmental   c onditions.  
 
Therefore,   A DS-­‐B   w eather   r eception   m ay   n ot   b e   c ontinuous.  
Due   t o   l atencies   t hat   a ccumulate   w hile   N EXRAD   w eather   i mages   a re   c reated,   a nd  
the   w ay   t hat   t he   F IS-­‐B/NEXRAD   s ervices   t imestamp   w eather   d ata,   N EXRAD   i mages  
are   a ctually   A LWAYS   o lder   t han   t he   a ge   i ndicated   o n   t he   d isplay.   I n   e xtreme   c ases,  
this   c an   m ean   t hat   t he   i mages   y ou   s ee   o n   S kyView   m ay   b e   1 5-­‐20   m inutes   o lder
