Troubleshooting

If the VCR does not function or functions incorrectly, check the following.
Symptom
The power cannot be turned on.
The unit will not operate even if the power has been
turned on.
The unit cannot be controlled using buttons on the
unit.
The cassette cannot be ejected.
The cassette cannot be inserted, or it is ejected
promptly.
No picture.
Noise appears on the screen.
No picture via the DV jack.
The audio is noisy.
The playback automatically starts when the power is
turned on.
The recording automatically starts when the power
is turned on.
The remote commander does not function.
The menu does not appear.

Chapter 4 Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Cause / Remedy
The power plug is disconnected. n Connect the plug.
• The REMOTE/LOCAL switch is set to REMOTE. n Set it to LOCAL
(See page 9) .
• Moisture condensation occurs.
t Turn off the power and disconnect the power plug. After about
one minute, connect the plug and turn on the power.
t Wait for about one hour with the power turned on.
• The cassette is not inserted straight. t Insert it straight.
The REMOTE/LOCAL switch is set to REMOTE. n Set it to LOCAL
(See page 9) .
The REMOTE/LOCAL switch is set to REMOTE. n Set it to LOCAL

• There is moisture condensation on the head drum. n Wait for about
an hour.
• The cassette is not inserted straight. n Insert it straight.
The video heads are dirty.n Clear the video heads using the cleaning
cassette.
• A damaged cassette is inserted.n Insert other cassette.
• The video heads are dirty.n Clear the video heads using cleaning
cassette.
Reconnect an i.LINK cable (DV connecting cable) (not supplied).
A damaged cassette is inserted.n Insert other cassette.
The TIMER selector is set to REPEAT. n Set it to OFF (See page 9) .
The TIMER selector is set to REC. n Set it to OFF (See page 9) .
The batteries are dead. n Replace the batteries.
Something is blocking the infrared rays. n Remove the obstacle.
The command mode is wrong. n Set up REMOTE CONTROL in the
SET UP MENU (See page 34) .
Connect the video monitor to the MONITOR connector.
