Troubleshooting Checklist
A -- PUMP WILL NOT START
turn off power before servicing pump
WARNING
Cause of Trouble
1. Blown fuse
2. Power off
3. Loose, broken or incorrect wiring
4. Faulty pressure switch
5. Tubing to pressure switch plugged
6. Impeller or Seal
7. Defective motor
B -- MOTOR OVERHEATS AND OVERLOAD TRIPS OUT
turn off power before servicing pump
WARNING
Cause of Trouble
1. Motor wired incorrectly
2. Inadequate ventilation
3. Prolonged low pressure delivery
(such as sprinkler systems)
4. Incorrect line voltage
How to Check
Check to see if fuse is OK
Try lights on same circuit.
Remove conduit cover plate. Check
wiring circuit against diagram. See
that all connections are tight and that
no short circuits exist because of worn
insulation, crossed wire, etc.
Check switch setting. Examine switch
contacts for dirt or excessive wear.
Remove tubing and blow through it
Use screwdriver to try to turn impeller
or motor
After checking steps 1 through 6
(and external wiring is OK) motor is
defective.
How to Check
Check motor wiring diagram
Check air temperature where pump is
located. If over 100º F, overload may be
tripping on external heat.
Continuous operation at very low
pressure places heavy overload
on pump. This can cause overload
protection to trip.
Check line voltage to pressure switch
How to Correct
If blown, replace with fuse of proper
size (See Table A)
Contact power company
Rewire any incorrect circuits as per
wiring diagram.
Adjust switch settings. Clean contacts
with emery cloth if dirty.
Clean or replace if plugged.
If impeller won't turn, remove seal
housing and locate source of binding
or return pump.
Return pump if still under warranty.
How to Correct
Reconnect for proper voltage as per
wiring diagram.
Provide adequate ventilation or move
pump.
Install Red Jacket Hydroservant I Valve
on discharge line and throttle to reduce
flow and to increase pressure.
If voltage under recommended
minimum, check size of wiring from
main switch on property. If OK, contact
power company.
