Recording the Karaoke
(microphone mixing)
Karaoke: Singing
Along
This stereo system lets you sing along with
a variety of different sources, including
VIDEO CD, CD-G, music CD and cassette
tape.
Also, you can minimize the singer's voice,
"vocal reduction," so you can sing along
with any stereo CD or tape or you can sing
along using a microphone (not supplied)
while playing a multiplex disc or tape.

When using VIDEO CDs or CD-Gs, turn
on your TV and switch it to the
appropriate video input.
Refer to the operating instructions
supplied with your TV for details.

Turn MIC LEVEL to MIN to turn down
the microphone control level.

Connect a microphone at the MIX MIC
jack.

Press FUNCTION several times to select
a sound source, then start playback.

Press KARAOKE PON/MPX.
For multiplex sources
Press repeatedly until "h MPX R" or
"h MPX L" appears in the display
(choose right (R) or left (L) according to
the encoding on your MPX software).
You can hear your voice through the
microphone and the instruments.
For normal karaoke sources
You don't need to press KARAOKE
PON/MPX.
For normal stereo sources
Press repeatedly until "h PON"
appears in the display.

Adjust VOLUME.

Sing or speak into the microphone.

Use MIC LEVEL to adjust the
microphone volume level.
When you finish singing karaoke
1 Set MIC LEVEL to MIN.
2 Disconnect the microphone and press
KARAOKE PON/MPX repeatedly until
"h PON", "h MPX R" and "h MPX L"
disappear from the display.
To hear both channels (the
instruments and the recorded
singer's voice) of an MPX source
Press KARAOKE PON/MPX repeatedly so
that "h PON", "h MPX R" or "h MPX L"
disappear from the display.

If you press EFFECT ON/OFF or recall a
sound effect with the MENU buttons

The karaoke mode is cancelled.
The SUR 1
and SUR 2
effects are automatically cancelled when
using KARAOKE PON/MPX.
Notes on vocal reduction with normal

stereo sources
The singer's voice may not be reduced
completely for the following reasons:
•Monaural recorded source (Instruments
may also be reduced.)
•Only a few instruments are playing in the
stereo recorded source.
•A duet is being played.
•The source has strong echoes or chorus.
•The singer's voice on the source deviates
from the center.
•The voice on the source is singing in high
soprano or tenor.
Notes
•If you hear acoustic feedback, turn the
volume down, move the microphone
away from the speakers or change the
direction of the microphone.
Acoustic feedback occurs when the sound
from speakers is picked up by a
microphone and amplified and
reproduced again.
• You cannot use both surround effects and
digital echo at the same time.
•The picture may be distorted when you
keep pressing down 0 or ) on the
remote.
•The CD player supports only TV mode for
CD-Gs. Other modes cannot be used.
