9. Installation

Before fixed installation, first take the entire system into operation as described in chapter 8 and insert the
batteries. That way, you can be sure that later function problems are due to the installation site or too-large
distance between the basis station and the sensors.
The range between the transmitter of the wind sensor or the thermo/hygro sensor and the receiver in the
basis station is up to 30 m in a free range (at a direct line of sight between the devices).
The range that can actually be achieved, however, is lower since there are walls, furniture, windows or
plants between the wind sensor and the basis station.
Another interference that strongly reduces range is proximity to electrical/electronic devices, cables or
metal parts. Reinforced concrete ceilings, metal-vaporised isolating glass windows or other devices on the
same transmission frequency (433 MHz) can also pose problems.
a) Installation of the Wind Sensor
The wind vane must be placed on top at installation.
The wind sensor can be attached, e.g. to a mast or a rod via the
enclosed holder; use screws or cable ties suitable for the installation
site.
Depending on installation site (e.g. to a carport), you may be able to
use an L-shaped holder as well that is available as accessory for SAT
receiver dishes.
Observe the following for selection of the mounting
site:
The mounting site must be exposed to permit the wind
sensor to display correct values. A minimum distance to
buildings or trees of 10 metres is recommended.
Before the wind sensor is firmly installed, you should per-
form a function and reception test. After inserting the bat-
teries into the wind sensor, thermo/hygro sensor and the
basis station, the corresponding measured values should
be displayed after several minutes.
Important!
The wind sensor has a mark for the direction "N" = North.
Attach the wind sensor so that the "N" mark points due North. The correct directions can be determined
with a compass (e.g. integrated in some smartphones as an app or can be downloaded).
If you do not have a compass, you may also use a map or map material from the internet to perform at least
approximate alignment.
When installing on a roof, ensure suitable lightning protection if necessary.
