8. Initial operation
c) Recording level display
The recording level display (2) provides information about the output level.
The level on the indicator should not exceed the „0" dB value as otherwise distortion of the music signal
can occur. A short blinking or deflection beyond the „0" dB value in the case of signal peaks is not
harmful.
d) Volume control
Adjust the volume of the connected amplifier to minimum.
Turn the MASTER control (9) and the GAIN control (3) to minimum.
Slide the channel fader (12) to minimum.
Use the input selection switch (1) to select the appropriate channel input.
Start the connected output device, e.g. a CD player. If this device has a volume control, set the volume to about
75% of the maximum level.
Slide the appropriate channel fader (12) right to the top.
Turn the MASTER control (9) to maximum.
You can set the signal level using the GAIN control (3). The signal level can now be read from the recording level
display. It should not exceed „0" dB.
Now set the required maximum volume using the volume control on the amplifier. Avoid distortion.
You can use the sound controls (5) to alter the playback sound.
Repeat the setting for all mixer channels. All channels should have about the same volume when cross-fading
between the channels so that there are no great differences in the volume which would otherwise require the
output signal to be adjusted.
After you have made these settings, use only the MASTER control (9) when you want to change the playback
volume.
Make sure that the connected loudspeakers and the amplifier are not overloaded. The playback
should not be distorted under any circumstances.
If the music signal is distorted in spite of the fact that the volume on the amplifier is not at a high
setting, and all the settings on the mixer are correct, then switch off the mixer immediately and
check all connections. If you can find no errors in the connection, please contact a specialist.
