4.5 Check the condition of the air filter Quad clean
Never use petrol or flammable solvents to clean the air filter element (risk of fire or explosion when starting the
generating set).
Running the engine under normal running conditions with the cover designed for cold weather conditions can
cause damage.
CAUTION
Do not use compressed air on a paper element.
1. Lower the cover lugs (D - 1) for the Quad clean air filter (A - 7) and remove the hooks from underneath the base stops.
Remove the cover (D - 2)
2. Remove the pre-filter (D - 4) from the paper element (D - 3).
3. Visually check the condition of the pre-filter and the paper element.
Clean or replace the element if necessary (see § Cleaning – Replacing the air filter).

5. Fit the paper element on the base. Fit the pre-filter on the paper filter element
6. Place the air filter cover in the normal running position (sun facing outwards) ((D - 5) or the cold weather position
(snowflake facing outwards) (D - 6). Insert the hooks underneath the base stops. Lift the lugs to secure the cover.
4.6 Starting the generating set
Allow a 60 second cool down period between starting attempts. Failure to follow these guidelines can burn out starter motor.
Before use:
- find out how to stop the generating set in an emergency,
- ensure you fully understand all the controls and manoeuvres.
IMPORTANT
To stop the generating set in an emergency, switch the control or the on/off key to "OFF" or "O".
1. Check that the generating set is correctly earthed (see § Earthing the generating set).

5. Slowly pull the starter-recoil reel handle (A - 10) until there is some resistance then let it return gently.
6. Then pull the starter-recoil reel handle quickly and sharply until the engine starts.
7. Slowly set the choke tab to position "O" position and wait until the engine temperature starts to increase before using the
generating set.
If the engine has not started, repeat the procedure until the engine starts while gradually opening the choke.
4.7 Using the electricity supplied
When the generating set speed has stabilised (approximately 3 minutes):
1. Check that the circuit breakers (A - 11) are depressed. Push in if necessary.
2. Connect the equipment to be used to the electrical sockets (A - 12) on the generating set.
4.8 Switching the generating set off
Always ensure that the generating set is suitably ventilated: the motor continues to give out heat after the
generating set has been shut down.
Make sure the fuel tap is closed.
IMPORTANT
1. Disconnect the electrical connectors (A - 12) and allow the engine to run without any load for 1 to 2 minutes.
2. Set the on/off control (A - 9) to "OFF" or "O ": the generating set stops.
3. Close the fuel tap (A-6/C-1).
