Chapter 4 - Flushing recommendations
4.1 Example of a possible flush sequence in case of heating systems
What additional materials are required to flush the heating system?
•
Cleaning agent OXILIN P-20 and a suitable device to be able to add the cleaning and dispersing
agent to the heating water. This can be a pressure pump, for example.
•
Conductivity meter and pH meter.
•
A commercially available oil-free air compressor, max. 6 bar.
•
Pressure limiter for water inlet.
•
Pressure-resistant hoses with fabric or metal insert with an inside diameter of ~ 25 mm for
fresh water supply, connection to heating flow and return and waste water.
•
Hose coupling (GEKA) for connecting the hoses to the flushing device and the heating system.
What work should be done before flushing?
•
Go through the entire system and make a note of the necessary valve presettings.
•
Open all parts of the system so that there is full flow everywhere.
•
Take a reference water sample. In this way you can document the different water quality before
and after the rinse.
•
Close automatic air vents.
•
Dose the required amount of OXILIN P-20 into the heating system and start the circulation
pumps. Let OXILIN P-20 work for at least 24 hours, but if possible 10-14 days with the
circulation pumps running.
Preliminary considerations as well as connection and placement of the flushing device
•
A cold water supply and a suitable point for the waste water supply are necessary within reach
of the flushing device. A floor drain can also be helpful for emptying the device.
•
The flushing device can be connected to the heating circuit distributors in the customer's
apartment or to the main flow and main return in the boiler room.
•
Make sure that the customer's property cannot be damaged by hitting the hose.
•
As far as possible, cover the floor with tarpaulin or painter's felt, so that a clean job is
guaranteed.
•
The flushing device is connected equally to the flow and return lines. The flushing water
circulates from the flushing device, through the pipeline back to the flushing device, and then into
the sewer line. The rinsing direction can be changed during rinsing. Before flushing, look at the
plumbing and make sure there are no check valves blocking the flow of water.
•
When flushing, the entire system must be flushed. However, this should be done heating circuit
by heating circuit. Think about how you can flush the system parts separately. This often results
in the ideal connection point for the flush valve. In many cases it makes sense to connect the
flush valve directly to the apartment distributor or floor distributor of the underfloor heating, for
example.
