3.5 Selection of the connection type

The type of connection depends on the dimensions of the heating system and the accessibility of
individual sub-manifolds. In general, we advise you to note the following:
Flushing should only take place using pipework that correspond to the inside diameter of the
pipes of the flushing device (d25 mm). The flushing device is not designed for larger pipe
diameters.
Flushing via the main flow and main return is always preferable, as the flushing then takes place
from the main boiler room, where there is usually a floor drain. A second person is always
required for this flushing variant, who monitors the flow of the system circuits to be flushed at
the distributors and who opens and closes the circuits.
In the case of systems with a bigger number of sub-manifolds, flushing should always be carried
out at these manifolds.
If possible, always flush individual closeable system parts separately in order to avoid shifting
sludge.

3.6 Flushing scheme

Basically, the entire system should always be flushed. Rinsing of individual parts of the system only
has a short-term effect. Due to the better flow after the flushing, most of the impurities from unflushed
parts of the system get into the flushed part of the system and settle there. Another silting is only a
matter of time.
Assuming that the entire system is flushed, only the part of the system that is currently being flushed
should be open. All other parts of the system must be closed so that contamination is avoided.
Flushing begins with the system circuit that is furthest away from where the flushing device is
connected. As soon as the circuit in question has been cleaned, it is closed and the next circuit to be
flushed is opened.
The following scheme is intended to clarify the flushing process. The numbers show the sequence of
the rinsing process.
