5.3.2 Clean or replace the air filter
Never use petrol or flammable solvents for cleaning the air filter element (risk of fire or explosion).
IMPORTANT
1.
Remove the side enclosure screws (A23) and the side enclosure (A22).
2.
Remove the screw from the air filter cover (D1) and the air filter cover (D2) and remove the foam element (D3).
3.
Check carefully that it has no tears or holes: replace it if it is damaged and every year as a minimum.
4.
If it is in good condition, clean the foam element: wash it using soapy water, rinse it carefully and leave it to dry completely.
5.
Soak the foam element in a small amount of clean engine oil and squeeze it to remove the excess oil (do not twist it).
If there is too much oil remaining in the foam, the engine will emit smoke when it is first started.
6.
Refit the foam element and the air filter cover, then retighten the air filter cover screw.
7.
Refit the side enclosure and its screws.

5.3.3 Checking the spark plug

1.
Remove the side enclosure screws (A23) and the side enclosure (A22).
2.
Remove the spark plug access cover (E1) and the spark plug cap (E2).
3.
Remove the spark plug (A20-E3) using a spark plug spanner through the access cover opening.
4.
Checking the correct condition of the spark plug:
Check the discolouration of the porcelain insulator: it must be light to medium beige in colour. Otherwise, replace with
the same type of spark plug (see § Specifications).
Check that the electrodes are not worn or that the insulator is not cracked or chipped off.
5.
If the spark plug is in poor condition, replace it:
a)
Clean the spark plug well with a metal brush.
b)
Fit a new spark plug in position and tighten it by
hand to avoid damaging the threads.
c)
Use a spark plug spanner to tighten the spark plug
by 1/2 turn after it is seated to compress the washer.
6.
Refit the spark plug cap and the access cover.
7.
Refit the side enclosure and its screws.
5.3.4 Cleaning the exhaust silencer
1.
Remove the screws (F1) and the exhaust silencer cover (F2).
2.
Remove the screw (F3) and the exhaust silencer grille (F4).
3.
Using a flat screwdriver, remove the spark arrester (F5).
4.
Using a metal brush, carefully remove the deposits on the exhaust silencer grille and spark arrester.
5.
Check the condition of the spark arrester and the exhaust silencer grille. Replace them if they are damaged.
6.
Refit the spark arrester in the exhaust silencer.
7.
Refit the exhaust silencer grille and its screw.
8.
Refit the exhaust silencer cover and its screws.
5.3.5 Cleaning the generating set
To ensure optimal operation, the generating set must be cleaned regularly. If the generating set is installed inside, always check
that the installation is clean and in good condition. If the generating set is being used outside (building sites, dusty, muddy or
densely wooded areas, corrosive environment, etc.), it must be cleaned more frequently.
1.
With a dry soft brush, clean the air vent grilles of the generating set.
2.
With a slightly damp sponge, clean the outside of the generating set and dry it using a dry cloth.
3.
Check that the generating set is in a good general condition (no leaks, bolts, fittings, hoses tightened, etc.).
4.
Replace any faulty parts (only use original parts and consult an agent if necessary).
If the spark plug is in good condition, clean it:
a) Clean the spark plug and its well with a metal brush.
b) With a feeler gauge, check the electrode gap "X": it
must be between 0.6 and 0.7 mm.
c) Check the condition of the washer.
d) Refit the spark plug in position and tighten it by hand
to avoid damaging the threads.
e) Use a spark plug spanner to tighten the spark plug by
1/8 to 1/4 turn after it is seated to compress the
washer.
