Setting the tension
Inverted tooth chain drive | R418009760–BDL–001–AA/2009-07
You can set the tension by one of the following procedures:
• by removing or adding chain links (see "Lengthening or
shortening inverted tooth chains" on page 70)
• by using a tension wheel
• by using sliding rails (see "Limitation of use" on page 55)

• by adjusting the axle distance
To calculate the axle distance, use the formulas listed in the
sales documents (see page 84).
Extending and altering inverted tooth chain
operation
The following extension and alteration procedures are permitted
and described in these instructions:
• Shortening, lengthening and connecting inverted tooth chains
• Machining the sprockets
CAUTION: Do not change the toothing. Furthermore, thermal
treatment of sprockets is not permitted.
Any other extension or alteration procedures (e.g. installing
special plates) are only permitted after consultation with Bosch
Rexroth AG, Antriebstechnik Zahnkette.

Lengthening or shortening inverted tooth chains

Inverted tooth chains are generally delivered in the required
installation length. If you ordered the chain by the meter, you can
shorten or lengthen the chain as described below.
To determine the chain length, use the formulas listed in the
sales documents (see page 84). If you have questions
regarding the maximum possible chain length for your
particular type, please contact Bosch Rexroth AG,
Antriebstechnik Zahnkette. The address is printed on the
