SHIFTING SYSTEM
1) Neutral:
When the shift lever is set to the neutral position, the shift cam assembled to the shift rod
rotates and moves the shift slider. The shift slider moves the dog clutch to the neutral position,
and the 2 balls installed to the shift slider fit in the groove in the inside wall of the propeller
shaft and are held in position by the force of a spring.

2) Forward:
When the shift lever is set to the forward position, the shift cam assembled to the shift rod ro-
tates. If the rotating force of the shift cam overcomes the pressure of the spring holding the
shift slider, the shift slider moves, and the dog clutch also moves together with the shift slider.
When the dog clutch reaches the position to mesh with the forward gear, the 2 balls installed
to the shift slider fit in the groove in the inside wall of the propeller shaft and are held in posi-
tion by the force of a spring, in the same way as for the neutral position of the slider. In this
way, the dog clutch is kept meshed with the forward gear.
