Cleaning and Maintenance

Drag always the power plug
(6)
from the
socket before cleaning. Never dip the
mash tun
(BHG 415.000)
into water (fig.
1)! To clean it, first unplug the mains plug
(6). Wipe the outside of the mash tun
(BHG 415.000)
with a damp cloth. The in-
side of the mash tun
(BHG
415.000), the
lauter-/fermenting tun
(BHG 425.000)
and the strainer insert should all be was-
hed with water, adding detergent if ne-
cessary and rinsing well. Any limescale
deposits (e.g. from using the appliance
to boil preserves) can be removed pe-
riodically using a solution of vinegar or a
descaling agent. After descaling, always
rinse the vessel out by boiling some plain
water in it.
Remove the cleaning liquid by scooping
it out (fig.3) or via the drain tap
(7)
(fig.4).
never tip the pots (fig.2)!
After every use, the drain tap
(7)
must
be rinsed with hot water. You may add
detergent or soda to the water. It is also
possible to clean the inside of the tap
with pipe cleaners and to sterilize it using
70% ethanol.

Thermostat

The mash tun
(BHG 415.000)
is equipped
with a precision capillary tube thermos-
tat (fig.5).
°C
(fig. 5)
The thermostat control knob
(4)
can be
adjusted continuously from approx. 30
°C to boiling point. The mash tun
(BHG
415.000)
automatically regulates the
temperature inside the vessel. However,
for precision control of the temperature
steps during the brewing process, we re-
commend using a thermometer as well.

Setting the temperature

Turn the thermostat control knob
ƒ
clockwise as far as it goes, then back to
the temperature you want to achieve.
Whenever you finish using the applian-
ƒ
ce, turn the thermostat control knob
(4)
anti-clockwise as far as it goes and
unplug the mains plug.
Thermostat setting 100°C
The exact boiling point of water depends
on the atmospheric pressure and the al-
titude If the thermostat control knob
on the appliance
(BHG 415.000)
high, the heater will operate continuously
and generate excessive steam. Water will
be lost from the contents of the vessel,
and energy will be wasted.
You can easily find the right setting to
keep the contents exactly at the boiling
point:
Turn the thermostat control knob
ƒ
clockwise to the 90°C mark.
Slowly keep turning the thermostat
ƒ
control knob to the right until the li-
quid in the vessel begins to boil.
