Preparethework area. Remove the furnitureand coverthe floor
witha drop cloth.Remove c hildrenand petsto a safedistantarea.
STEP2
Puton the safetygoggles, dustmaskand gloves. Thesewill protect
your eyesand lungs.
STEP3
Usinga hammer a nd a chiselmakean initialholenearthe center
of your chosenlocation (Figure5).
STEP4
Enlargethe initialholewith a handsawuntilyou canseethejoist
(Figure6)
STEPS
Tracethe cuttinglineson theceiling for the installation opening.
Makesurethatoneof thetracedlinesis parallelto the ceilingjoist
(Figure7, t able 2).

Havingone edge of the openingparallel to the ceiling joistwill
allow to use it as part of the framewhich will be neededfor
installation.
STEP6
Cut out and removeremainingpart of the ceiling according to
tracedlines(rectangle) w hileobserving:
a. not to cutany joists, o nlytheceilingboard
b. removethe ceiling board by smallpieces,becausethe ceiling
materials can bevery heavy.
STEP 7
Ifthereareioists inthecutoutopeningproceed to section 6 "Cutting
theceilingioists".
If thereare no joistsalong or acrossthe openinggo to section7
"Framing the installation opening" Page7-9.
