Supplement for ex-protected model types
De昀椀nition of type of protection
The design orientation for the ex-protection of explosion-protected operating equipment manufactured by KESSEL
is achieved by the type of protection:
昀氀ameproof enclosure "d". Here, the parts which can ignite a potentially explosive atmosphere are located in a
housing which can withstand the pressure of an explosion caused by a potentially explosive mixture on the inside
and prevent this explosion being transferred to the potentially explosive atmosphere outside the housing.
Operating equipment which has a separate connection chamber also ful昀椀ls the requirements of protection type:
increased safety "e".
If instrument leads for the connection of simple electrical operating equipment in accordance with EN 60079-11
para. 5.7 are routed through the explosion-proof enclosed chamber (conductive value measurement, 昀氀oat switch as
leakage monitor etc.), these comply with the requirements of protection type: intrinsic safety "i".
Protection type construction safety "c" is used for the maintenance of equipment protection in potentially explosive
areas for non-electrical parts of KESSEL operating equipment (mechanical ex-protection).
Here, constructional measures are taken to guarantee protection against potential ignition through moving parts, hot
surfaces, sparks and adiabatic compression by means of suf昀椀cient dimensioning of the components.
Certi昀椀cation
The EC type approval test certi昀椀cates for the explosion-protected submersible motor pumps were issued by
DEKRA CERTIFICATION B.V. in Arnheim / NL.
DEKRA 16 ATEX 0086X
DEKRA 16 ATEX 0087X
DEKRA 16 ATEX 0088X
DEKRA 16 ATEX 0089X
(see nameplate).
Together with the noti昀椀cation of recognition of quality assurance in production and the Declaration of Conformity in
accordance with EN 17050 from the manufacturer, the potentially explosive operating equipment may be put into
circulation and operation in accordance with directive 2014/34/EU.

General instructions
Only of昀椀cially recognised "Quali昀椀ed persons" or workshops or persons authorised by ourselves may carry out
work on explosion-protected operating equipment. Any jobs, installation, repairs, service work and observations
must always be carried out following these operating instructions and the respective documentation.
