Troubleshooting
1 - Algae
Algae are a common problem for spa pools; they
build-up in small scales appearing like paper
filaments that, besides being unpleasant to see and
touch, can lead to high consumption of chemical
products. The presence of algae in the whirlpool
is caused by an insufficient dosage of disinfectant.
In addition to constantly ensuring the presence
of disinfectant in the water, even adequate water
circulation is important.
2 - Cloudy water
Water may become cloudy due to several reasons:
a) High amounts of dissolved solids.
Total dissolved solids (TDS) are present in all tanks.
These are particularly high where there is a high
degree of evaporation. These dissolved solids
consist of salts that concentrate in water due to
evaporation and organic substances introduced
mostly by bathers.
0 ppm of TDS would be ideal, however a range
between 0 and 1,500 ppm is quite acceptable.
When the concentration of TDS becomes too high
(more than 1,500 ppm), sanitizing will result more
difficult with chemicals because the dissolved
substances act as protection of bacteria.
Dissolved solids accumulate in water as a result
of high attendance or due to an exaggerated
addition of chemicals in a certain period of time.
These will dissolve and become part of the water
general chemistry.
When these dissolved solids become too
concentrated, water clearness ill reduce.
The best solution is to empty and fill the tub with
new water.
b) High pH.
The high pH level, above 7.6, can cause the
cloudiness of the water. Reduce the pH to the
correct level of 7.2 - 7.5 with EVERMENO.
c) Insufficient filtering
Check the filter every week making sure it is
working properly and it is clean.
If the filter is dirty, the water flow will decrease
reducing its efficiency. The filter should be
cleaned at least once a month or when its working
pressure exceeds 1.3 Kg/cm
with the backwash
2
procedure.
3 - Coloured water
Water may contain metals such as iron, manganese,
copper, ...
To prevent the stains that these elements can cause
by oxidizing, first use EVERSAN MET I once filled and
then every week and each addition of water.
4 - Irritation of the eyes and skin
a) High pH
A pH level that is too high may irritate your skin
and eyes.
Correct this by adding EVERMENO and take the
pH level to 7.5.
b) Low pH.
Even a pH level that is too low can cause irritation
to your eyes and skin. First check total alkalinity:
if it is within the range of 80 - 120 ppm of CaC03
(calcite), increase the pH level by adding EVERPIU'
to restore the value of 7.2 - 7.5.
The case of low pH is somewhat unusual and
more difficult to treat compared to a high pH
level as, in addition to the pH, it involves water
alkalinity altering the effect of the pH corrector
(EVERPIU').
We recommend introducing small doses of
EVERPIU' and repeating the pH level reading to
avoid overdosing.
c) Lack of sanitizers
Bacteria and micro-organisms may penetrate in
the pores of the skin and cause skin rashes and
superficial infections.
Make sure the EVERBROM concentration is
between 2.0 and 3.0 ppm.
5 - Foam
The formation of foam is a common problem
of whirlpools caused by the strong agitation of
water, by dissolved solids and by the level of water
hardness. To overcome this problem, use EVERSAN
AS in small doses.
About 10-15 drops are enough to dissolve the foam.
If the problem persists, check the level of water
hardness. In extreme cases, change the water.
6 - Odour
Odours are generally due to problems with the pH
level and to SURCHLOR D/EVERBROM. Check the pH
and the concentration of free chlorine in the water. It
can also be caused by a high concentration of total
dissolved solids (TDS) in the water. To correct this,
perform an intensive treatment with SURCHLOR
D as per directions on the label and adjust the pH
level to 7.2 - 7.5.
If this does not change the odour, change the water.
7 - Scale build-up
Scale build-up is a common problem. These deposits
may obstruct or cover various parts of the system
(heating units, tubes, filter, ... ) and reduce the
water flow and the system's efficiency to the point
of requiring costly repairs or the replacement of
damaged components.
Scale build-up is usually the result of dissolved
calcium that deposits as calcium carbonate when
the pH level is too high. To avoid this, keep the pH
level between 7.2 - 7.5 and add EVERSAN MET I to
water weekly.
