Balancing
the tonearm
Precise
tonearm
balancing
is
important,
above
all
for
cartridges
with
a
low stylus
pressure. The
tonearm
needs
only
be balanced
once. However,
it
is
recommended
to
check
the tonearm
balance
from
time
to
time.
The tonearm is
balanced
if it
remains
in
a
horizontal
position
when
suspended
freely
(moved
inward
from
its
resting
post)
and
if it
returns
to
this horizontal position
if
pushed upwards
or
downwards.
Shifting
the
counterbalance
(1) on
its shaft
balances
the tone'
arm
coarsely;
turning
the
front
knurled ring
of
the
counter-
balance
weight (1)
balances
the tonearm exactly.
1
Set
the
tracking force (4)
to 0
and
the
anti-skating
device
(6)
to
"off

(pointer

left).
2.
Unlock the tonearm and
pivot
it
towards
the
centre
of
the
platter

Pressthe

button
(11).
3.
lf
the tonearm
does
not
return
to
a
horizontal
position
on
its
own,
release
the
lockinq
screw
(2)
and
shift
the
counter-
balance
with
the stem
until
you
have an
approximate
balan
ce. The stem
of
the
counterbalance
should
then
be
locked
by tightening the locking
screw
4.
Now find the
exact balance
by turning the
f
ront
knurled
ring
of the counterweight.
Setting
tracking force
Each
cartridge
requires
a
certain tracking force
with
which
op
timum
reproduction
is
obtained.
lf
you
purchased

for
the
cartridge
is set
by
turning the tracking

The unit works
reliably
from a

Anti-skating
The skating
force
acting upon any tonearm
leads
to
one-sided
wear
of
the stylus and
record and can
cause
distorted
repro-
duction.
For
stylus types generally
available nowadays,
separate
setting
scales
are available
in
accordance
with the
printed
symbols:

The skating
force
is
reduced
by
approximately 1/3 in the
case
of
"wet"
playing (playing
records moistened
with
liquid).
The antiskating device

Fitting the
cover
lnsert
the
cover
into
the
slots on
the
two
hinges
(3)
located
on
the
chassis.
lt will
be easier
to
insert
or
remove
the
cover
if
the
slots on
the
cover
hinges are
in
a
vertical position.
The
cover
will
remain
in
any
desired
position when
opened
a
few
centimeters.
lf
it
should
become
necessary
to
reset
the
spring
pressure
that
maintains the cover
in
position,
this
may
be
done
by
rotating
the
screws accessible
at the
rear
of
the
unit
(Fig.4):
Fotating
the
screws clockwise
-
increases
the
spring
pressure
Rotating
the
screws counterclockwise
-
decreases
the
spring
pressure.
Connection to the AC supply
Depending
upon
the voltage rating
on the
nameplate,
the turn-
table
is set
either
to
a voltage
of 22O-24OVl5O or60
Hz
or
to
1
10
-
125
V
l5A or 60
Hz.
Resetting
the
mains
voltage must
only
be
carried
out
by
your
dealer
or by
an
authorized Dual
seruicing agent.
The
unit
may
also
be
connected
to
the
jacks
provided
on
suitably
equipped
ampl
ifiers.
Connection to the amplifier
Connect
the
cartridge
lead
equipped
with
RCA
(cynch)
plugs
to
the
phono-magnet
input
of
the amplifier
(black

equipped
with
the
cable
bracket
or
screw
it
under
the
clamp
marked
"GND"
on
the
rear
of

lf
your
receiver
or

is
designed
for

your
dealer may convert
your unit with the

automatically
starts
to

be cleaned
(with
an
