3.1
befOre getting started
It is recommended that one individual be assigned to operate
this machine, so as to make that person familiar with the overall
safety and maintenance of the system. It is important that all
persons operating this machine read this manual to familiarize
themselves with the equipment.
3.2
machine functiOn
The following section contains a brief description of the overall
function of the machine.
Hot thermoplastic (heated to 400ºF - 430ºF) is transferred
by gravity into the ThermoMark 250 holding tank (1). The
holding tank capacity is 250 lbs. of molten plastic.
The operator opens a valve by remote lever (2) to transfer
the hot plastic into a screed type-shaping die (3). Upon
filling the die, the valve is closed and the die is lowered to
contact the road surface.
Operation of a separate remote lever (4) then opens the die
to allow the thermoplastic in the die to contact the road
surface.
The operator then begins to propel the applicator at
approximately 1-2 MPH, causing the thermoplastic to
extrude through the die and to be shaped onto the road
surface.

The resultant marking is based on the width and the height
of the opening in the application die being used.
Standard dies are 4", 6", 8" and 12" in width. Each die is
available in a variety of fixed mil thickness from 0.060 mil
to 125 mil or with an optional adjustable die bar, 30 mil to
125 mil.
Application is acheived only when the appicator
i
is in forward motion.
The automatic bead system (5), located directly behind the
application die, drops a thin layer of glass beads on top of
the marking to provide reflectivity.
Upon reaching the end of the desired application length,
the operator then moves the die lever to close the die and
raise it from the road surface (3). A convenient latch hook
(6) allows the operator to secure the lever in the retracted
position. The unit can then be moved to the next marking
location.
