service data
If you should experience trouble with the ignition
i
or operation of the LP gas heating system, try the
following before calling for service:
1. Make note of or mark the wire connections on the gas valve
located inside the bead hopper side door. Disconnect all
wires, then trace the two wires leading to the thermopile
inside the firebox.
2. Using a test meter, check for continuity on the remaining
red and white wire, which leads to the thermostat control.
While still connected to the tester, adjust the thermostat
setting up and down and listen for a click in the thermostat.
This sound denotes a switch turning on and off, with the
lower setting being off, or no continuity.
3. If there is no change on the tester, disconnect the wires
on the thermostat and check each conductor for possible
grounding.
4. Replace or repair if needed.
5. If the test meter shows that the switch and wires are
functioning properly, reconnect wires and continue with
the millivolt meter check as follows:
a. Test results - if the reading is more than 100 millivolts
and the automatic valve does not come on, replace it.
If the closed circuit reading is less than 100 millivolts,
determine the cause by proceeding with steps "b" and
"c".
b. Test results - if "b" reading is less than 325 millivolts,
clean and tighten all electrical connections and adjust
pilot if necessary to increase millivolt output. If unable
to adjust to at least the specified minimum, change the
thermopile.
c. Test results - if "c" reading is more than specific for the
circuit being checked, clean and tighten thermostat
leads and connections, and rapidly cycle thermostat to
clean contacts.
