5. OPERATION AND HANDLING OF THE MACHINE
Information which it is good to know before the riding mower is first turned on:
The riding mower is equipped with safety contacts, which are engaged by:
- a switch located under the seat
- a switch on an attached grass catcher or deflector
- a full grass catcher switch
- a brake pedal switch
The engine will automatically shut off when the driver leaves the seat and the machine is
not secured using the parking brake.
The engine can only be started when the mowing deck is turned off and the grass catcher
is attached, or a deflector which during mulching prevents grass clippings from entering the
exhaust chute that leads to the grass catcher is attached and the brake pedal is applied.
5.1 CHECKS PRIOR TO STARTING UP THE MACHINE
Before starting up the riding mower check the following:
Oil level in the engine (
Battery charge level (
Fuel level (

Air pressure in the tyres (
5.2 STARTING UP THE ENGINE
The machine is equipped with a function that prevents the engine from starting if the following safety
conditions are not met:
The drive of the mowing deck is disengaged
The travel pedal is not pushed down
The driver is sitting on the seat of the machine
The brake pedal is pushed down or the brake is engaged in the parking position

After meeting the described conditions, start the engine as follows:
a) Apply the brake pedal.
b) Set the mowing deck elevation adjustment lever to position. "6".
c) On machines with an engine, check the petrol supply valve (only on machines with BS15 with a power
output of 15.5HP).
d) Set the throttle lever as follows:
- On machines with a two-cylinder engine or EFM electronic choke to position "MAX"
- On machines with a two cylinder engine to position "CHOKE"
e) Pull out the choke (only on machines equipped with a manual choke)

Meeting these conditions at the instant the engine is being started
is indicated by the red brake pedal and parking pedal light being
permanently lit
Not meeting these conditions at the instant the engine is being
started is indicated by the red brake pedal and parking pedal light being
intermittently lit (flashing)

If the hand brake backlight lights up intermittently, this indicates that
OK
the battery is not being recharged properly. If this happens contact an
NO OK
authorised service centre as soon as possible.
