Operation
The sound effects module requires
sufficient voltage operation, and this
voltage is not reached until the loco-
motive is going at a higher speed.
At the same time, with low voltage,
there is the possibility that the sound
effects circuit can only produce inter-
mittent and unstable sound effects.
For that reason, we do not recom-
mend running the locomotive in ope-
ration with AC power and with the
sound effects turned on.
Caution: Never operate the smoke
generator for a long time without fil-
ling it up with smoke fluid. Otherwise,
you may damage the smoke genera-
tor. If you are going to operate the
locomotive for longer periods of time
without filling the smoke generator
with smoke fluid, then the smoke
generator must be removed to pro-
tect it from damage.

2.5.3 Running the Locomotive with
DC Power (DC Power Pack)
Suitable train controller:
DC power packs with a maximum
output voltage of +/– 18 volts. The
power pack must provide a pure,
smooth DC voltage. Power packs
with pulse width control cannot be
used.
The switch in the tender for the con-
ventional mode of operation must be
set at "DC" (see page 24).
Running the locomotive:
Read the instructions provided by
he manufacturer of the power pack.
Pay close attention to the safety
information.
Important: You should not change
the direction of travel until the
model has come to a stop.
The direction-dependent headlights
and the smoke generator are on con-
tinuously in operation with DC power
as long as there is sufficient voltage
present in the track. All other func-
tions remain turned off!
