Recurring questions

7.1

Switching

• How to block the access to the selection of some video inputs to the different keyboards ? In each
keyboard, set the enabled inputs (and eventually the enabled outputs). It is not possible to switch in
any way inputs or outputs which are disabled, not even by password.
7.2

Safety

• How to display a cut-off in the cables which connect the alarm sensors to the matrix ? It is necessary to
have sensors supplying NORMALLY CLOSED contacts. A cable cut-off (between the contact and the
common) is therefore interpreted as an alarm condition.
• How to set the passwords , when in the configuration menu of the matrix no choice about this is
present ? The passwords are locally handled in the keyboards : their modification must be carried out
on the configuration menu of the keyboard, according to what stated in the relevant instruction manual.
7.3

Alarms

• How to activate an alarm condition? If an alarm contact is defined as Normally Open, the alarm
condition is activated if this is short-circuited with the alarm common ; if the contact is Normally Closed,
when the short-circuit with the alarm common is removed.
• How to display more video inputs, when an alarm is activated ? An "alarm group" is defined for that
contact : this is a group of inputs displayed in a continuous switching cycle, with times defined in the
configuration phase.
• How to allow the reset of the alarm condition to some keyboards and not to others? From the matrix it
is possible to select only whether the keyboards can or cannot reset the alarm condition, but it is not
possible to decide which keyboards are enabled to this operation ; therefore, it is necessary to set a
reset password in each keyboard. It is possible to disable this password on the keyboards, by setting it
at 000000.
• The alarm switching cycle, in case of rather complex alarm groups, tends to become rapidly inefficient.
How to remedy this ? On the menu 3.6 Other parameters Alarms, set the heading "Last alarm only" to
YES.
• How to exploit the output alarm contact from an alarm control unit ? The alarm control unit must supply
the matrix with an alarm signal, and the matrix must be set for the control of "continuous" alarms. In
this way, it is not necessary to carry out the double reset of the alarm condition (both in the control unit
and the matrix), and when the normal condition is restored, the matrix automatically returns to the
condition preceding the alarm.
• How to warn acoustically an operator about the alarm in progress ? It is possible to enable a warning
buzzer either in the matrix or in each controlling keyboard (refer to the relevant instruction manual).
The closing relay in case of alarm can be used for the control of additional devices (sirens, etc.).
7.4

Event recording

• How is it possible to record events? The SW164OSM matrix allows connecting a serial printer for the
event recording (matrix switching on and off, alarm condition and type of reset, programming start and
end).
7.5

Notes on the matrix and controlling keyboard configuration

Considering the necessity of setting a great number of parameters, it can be necessary to know whether
these parameters are handled at video matrix level or during the configuration of the individual keyboards.
