For Your Safety

Strictly follow the Instructions for Use
Any use of the gas transmitter requires full understanding
and strict observation of these instructions. This gas transmit-
ter is only to be used for the purposes specified here.
Maintenance
Repair of the gas transmitter may only be carried out by com-
petent personnel. We strongly recommend signing a service
contract with the Dräger service department to have them
handle service and maintenance jobs. Always use original
Dräger parts for maintenance. Be sure to read the chapter on
"Maintenance".
Accessories
Only use accessories listed in the order list.
Safe Connection of Electrical Devices
Never connect this device to other electrical devices not men-
tioned in these IFUs before consulting the manufacturer or an
expert.
Use in Areas Subject to Explosion Hazards
Devices or components which are used in potentially explo-
sive atmospheres and were tested and approved according
to national, European or international regulations may only
be used in conditions specified in the approval and under
observation of relevant legal regulations. The electrical
equipment may not be modified. Never use defective or
incomplete parts. Always observe the relevant regulations
when servicing devices or components of this type.
Safety Symbols used in these Instructions for Use
These Instructions for Use include risk and hazard warnings
pertaining to the use of this device. These warnings have sig-
nal words which identify the degree of danger. These signal
words and the corresponding hazards are as follows:
WARNING
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if no
safety precautions are taken, could result in death or seri-
ous injury.
CAUTION
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, could result in physical injury to you, or damage to
the product.
It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices.
NOTICE
Additional information on how to use the device.

Intended Use

Dräger PIR 7000 infrared gas transmitter
– For stationary, continuous monitoring of the concentration
of combustible gases and vapours containing hydrocar-
bons in a suitable atmosphere.
– Measuring range type
0 to 20 ... 100 % LEL
334: (IDS 01x1)
0 to 100 % vol. methane.
– Measuring range type
0 to 5 ... 100 % LEL
340: (IDS 01x2)
e.g. 0 to 850 ppm propane.
– Can be alternatively configured for various gases and va-
pours.
Dräger PIR 7200 infrared gas transmitter
– For stationary, continuous monitoring of the concentration
of carbon dioxide in the ambient air.
– Measuring range:
0 to 0.2 ... 100 % vol. carbon
(IDS 01x5)
dioxide
With 4 to 20 mA analogue output signal for measuring mode,
®
bi-directional serial interface and HART
uration and measuring mode (optional).
Suitable for use in rough ambient conditions (e.g. offshore).
For installation in either Ex areas zone 1, 2 or 21, 22 corre-
sponding to device category 2G, 3G or 2D, 3D or Class I or II,
Div. 1 or 2 hazardous areas.
In connection with a central device
(e.g. Dräger REGARD):
– Warning before an explosive concentration level is
reached.
– Automatic initiation of counter measures which avert the
explosion hazard (e.g. switching on ventilation).
– Device error warning.
– Special calibration mode (blocking of alarm triggering, one-
man calibration).
In connection with the Dräger PEX 3300 /
Dräger PEX 7300 operating and display instrument
(see Technical Handbook, 90 23 886):
– Display of the measured value.
– Configuration of the gas transmitter.

Tests and approvals

The explosion-protection approvals are valid when using the
gas transmitter in gas/vapour-air mixtures of combustible
gases and vapours or dust-air-mixtures of combustible dusts
under atmospheric conditions. The explosion-protection
approvals are not valid for use in oxygen enriched atmos-

Installation
The gas transmitter may only be installed by competent per-
sonnel (e.g. Dräger service personnel) who observe the reg-
ulations applicable at the respective location of use.
Mounting location
– The mounting location needs to be selected for maximum
detection effect. Make sure that the air can circulate freely
around the gas transmitter.
– Make sure the gas transmitter is mounted as close as can
be to the possible source of leaks.
interface for config-
– To monitor gases or vapours that are lighter than air,
the gas transmitter needs to be installed above the pos-
sible source of leaks.
– To monitor gases or vapours that are heavier than air,
the gas transmitter needs be installed as close as pos-
sible to the ground.
– The air flow conditions on site need to be taken into ac-
count. Install the gas transmitter at a place where the gas
concentration is expected to be highest.
– Install the gas transmitter in a position where the risk of
mechanical damage is lowest. The gas transmitter must be
sufficiently accessible for maintenance. Make sure that
there is a clearance of approx. 20 cm around the gas trans-
mitter!
Observe the preferred orientation
– If a splash guard is used then take care when mounting
that the status indicator lights are in a vertical row. The
"Dräger" logo on the splash guard must be readable in hor-
izontal orientation. A maximum deviation of ±30° from the
horizontal orientation is permissible. For gas transmitters
with 3/4" NPT threaded connection, it might be necessary
to use a connecting union to maintain the preferred orien-
tation.
– Only without splash guard can gas transmitters be installed
in a different position – and this position bears an in-
creased risk of contaminating the optical surfaces!
Water and/or dirt on the optical surfaces may trip a warning
or fault.
