The connection between the Docking Station and the main
instrument is realized via a 'feedthrough'. Depending on the
instrument selected, there are 3 types of feed-through.
– feedthrough 3 wires for power
– feedthrough 9 wires for power and relay
– feedthrough 14 wires for power, interface connections or
relay and remote sensor (not for Polytron

Mechanical installation with Docking
Station
The transmitter can be mounted for measuring gases in
ambient air or inside of a duct/pipe.
1. Mount the Docking Station to one of the following options.
Option
Mounting on a flat surface
Mounting on a pole
Mounting on a duct/pipe
To mount the transmitter on the Docking Station:
1. Pull hinge pin out of the Docking Station.
2. Align the boss of the transmitter with the boss of the
Docking Station and push the hinge back in.
 The transmitter is now supported and can swivel to
give access to the wiring.
3. Install the electrical wiring see instructions for use of the
docking station (9033242).
4. Securely screw the transmitter onto the Docking Station
using 4 screws with a tightening torque of 8 Nm (70 LB
IN.). The 4 screws are part of the delivery (M6, 1/4" bolts
with hex socket caps).

Installation of sensors
6.1
Installing EC sensor
See figure C on the fold-out page.
This point is only valid for Polytron
1. If the instrument is already in operation, activate the
function to change the sensor (Sensor change function).
Otherwise, a fault is displayed when the sensor is
deplugged.
2. Loosen set-screw, 2mm Allen screw.
3. Unscrew bayonet ring and remove blank or old sensor.
4. Insert sensor into the opening. The Dräger logo on the
sensor must point to the mark on the sensing head
housing.
5. Lock sensor with bayonet ring.

6. Tighten set-screw.
Mandatory for Zone 22 installations.
Depending on the explosion protection type, different sensing
heads are used. For installation of the different sensing
heads, refer to the corresponding instructions for use for the
respective sensing head.

Commissioning of the instrument

1. Switch power supply on.

● Polytron
5100 EC
 The display shows remaining time in minutes until
the sensor is ready for measurement (t 016 e. g.).
● All other Polytron 5000 instruments
 The display shows Info 301 until the sensor is
ready for measurement.
 The fault relay signals a fault.
 The instrument will go through a start-up sequence
(LCD / LED test, software version, and initialization)
and start the warm-up period.
The maintenance signal on the 4-20mA interface is
transmitted until the sensor is warmed-up.
Maximum warm-up time of a new sensor: see the
Instructions for Use for the sensor.
 After the warm-up period, the instrument goes into
normal operation. The display shows the current gas
concentration the unit of measurement. The green
LED is lit.
2. If necessary, calibrate the instrument.

Sensor change during warm-up
Changing the sensor selection during warm-up causes Err -
109. Cycling the power initializes the instrument to accept the
change. All configurations must be checked, and the
instrument must be calibrated.
