The PHM220 requires a minimum of maintenance. However, the
exterior surface of the pH meter should be regularly cleaned with a
soft cloth and tepid water.
Always use the original packaging of the PHM220 during
transportation.
The 3.6 V lithium battery (430-127), which has a lifetime of approx. 2
years, should be replaced when the warning message telling the user
that the battery is running low appears; see page 54.
The battery's function is to ensure the pH meter's permanent memory
facility. The battery must be changed while the instrument is
switched on to avoid loss of data in the memory. However, if you
change the battery while the instrument is switched off, turn it on
again immediately afterwards, otherwise the battery will run down
more quickly than it normally would.
Change the battery in the following way:
1.
The cap on the rear plate of the PHM220
behind which the battery is positioned is
shown in the illustration.
2.
Insert the edge of a coin into the slit on the
cap surface and turn.
3.
The cap will now open providing access to the old battery which
should be removed. The new battery should be positioned with
the + sign facing towards the + sign on the inside of the cap.
4.
Put the cap back in place.
WARNING: Only replace with a battery of the same type and rating.

Adjusting the Contrast

The contrast of the PHM220's display can be adjusted by means of a
screw located on the bottom of the pH meter. By turning the screw
clockwise or anticlockwise, the display will turn darker or brighter
respectively.
