Hardware
R
The workbench for the EPS 118 must have a
loadbearing capacity of >80 kg and a solid, torsion-
resistant, firm working surface. Use a spirit level to
make sure the working surface is horizontal.
R
To ensure adequate ventilation for the EPS 118, the
gap between the back of the unit and the wall must
be at least 20 cm. To prevent overheating, it must
be ensured that the vent grilles on the back of the
EPS 118 are not closed off.
R
Never expose the EPS 118 to direct sunlight. There
should also not be any other sources of heat (for
example radiators) in the immediate vicinity of the
device.
R
EPS 118 must be connected to a compressed air
system. The compressed air system must satisfy the
following requirements:
$
The compressed air supply must be able to sup-
ply a sufficient amount of compressed air during
testing. For the test, compressed air at a pres-
sure of 0.65 MPa (6.5 bar) ... 0.85 MPa (8.5 bar)
and a volumetric flow of
(l
/min = liter permit under normal conditions)
n
must be available at the input of the mainte-
nance unit of the EPS 118 (see Fig. 2, item 2).
$
The compressed air must be clean, dry and free
of oil – according to the purity classes
ISO 8573–1:2010 [3:4:4].
!
Compressed air that is too humid may cause mal-
functions and damage. In case of excessive humi-
dity, an air dryer must be installed in front of the
maintenance unit.
!
All customer service causes that are attributable to
and inadequate compressed air system are charge-
able.

When choosing a compressor, make sure not to
confuse the value of the delivery rate with the value
of the suction capacity. The delivery rate is the
relevant value. Likewise, the hose that connects
the compressor to the EPS 118 is also important.
A spiral hose, one that is too long or a hose with
a small inner diameter can decrease the pressure
in the compressed air network. For the EPS 118 to
operate, the compressor must satisfy the following
specifications:
The  volume of the internal compressed air
tank must be greater than 100 L, and the switch-
on pressure must be no less than 0.7 MPa (7 bar).
The delivery rate must be greater than 320 l
min at a delivery pressure of 0.65 MPa (6.5 bar)
... 0.85 MPa (8.5 bar). The hose may be no longer
than 10 m. The inner diameter of the hose must be
greater than
10 mm. The inner diameter of the hose connections
must be greater than 7.5 mm.
!
If additional consumers are connected in the
compressed-air network of EPS 118, we recom-
mend the use of a receiver (50 l to 100 l). Use of
a receiver prevents pressure fluctuations that can
lead to incorrect measurements or cancellation of
the measurement being performed.
R
The EPS 118 may only be operated with test oil as
per ISO 4113.
!
Never add diesel fuel to the EPS 118.
!
The test oil in the tank must not drop below the oil
level indicator mark.
R
EPS 118 may only be connected to a grounded,
single-phase 100 V – 240 V ±10 % network with a
frequency of 50/60 Hz and a current of 5 A. The de-
vice will automatically select the operating voltage
setting. There is no need for further adjustment.
i
Injectors with a coil resistance of up to 5 ohms can
be tested.
i
Only printers approved by Bosch may be connected
to the EPS 118.
