Preconditions for use

The following preconditions have to be observed when using the full
face masks with a respiratory filter or a powered air purifying
respirator:
The ambient conditions (particularly the types and concentrations
of contaminants) must be known. Use corresponding respiratory
filters. Only use SCBAs or air line breathing apparatus in cases
where the contaminant is unknown.
Only use filtering devices if the air does not directly endanger the
health or life of the user.
It must be ensured that the ambient atmosphere cannot change to
the worse.
Do not use filtering devices if there is suspicion of contaminants
with low warning properties (low-odour, tasteless, no irritation of
eyes and airways). A decreasing protective effect of the filtering
device cannot be determined in this case.
Do not use filtering devices for entering unventilated tanks, mines,
canals, etc.
Do not use filtering devices in oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
The oxygen content of the ambient air must not drop below the
following limit values:
at least 17 Vol% oxygen in all European countries except the
Netherlands, Belgium and the UK
at least 19 Vol% oxygen in the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK,
Australia and New Zealand
In other countries, observe the applicable national regulations.

Preparations for use

1. Use mask spectacles, if necessary.
2. Loosen the harness as far as possible (Figure B).
3. Put the carrying strap around the neck and fasten it in the standby
position.
3.3
Donning the full face mask
1. Check the full face mask:
The harness has to be tightened securely.
The inner mask has to be positioned correctly and securely.
The protective cap has to be positioned securely.
All other parts have to be in a good condition.
2. Release the carrying strap from the standby position.
3. Pull the harness apart, place your chin into the chin cup (Figure C),
centre the harness over your head. Ensure that the harness is flat
and not twisted.
4. Ensure that neither hair nor harness impairs the face seal and that
the face seal is in complete contact with the face and adapts to its
contours.
5. Tighten both neck straps (Figure D, Step 1) and then the temple
straps (Figure D, Step 2) by pulling them evenly towards the back
of the head so that the centre of the harness remains in the centre
of the head (Figure E).
6. If required, tighten the upper head-harness connector (Figure D,
Step 3).
7. Breathe normally.
Used air should leave the exhalation valve easily.
8. Check the full face mask for leakages:
a. Seal the mask connector and breathe in until a negative
pressure is generated.
b. Hold your breath for a moment. The negative pressure should
be maintained. If not, adjust the harness.
c. Repeat the leak test twice.
