ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENTS

WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, turn unit off
and disconnect it from power source before installing and
removing accessories, before adjusting or when making
repairs. Before reconnecting the tool, depress and release the
trigger switch to ensure that the tool is off. An accidental start-
up can cause injury.
Mounting Guards
MOUNTING AND ADJUSTING THE HEAVY-DUTY CUT-OFF
GUARD (FIG. 4–6)
CAUTION: Guards must be used with all cutting wheels.
This guard is compatible with D
D28140, D28144, D28144N, D28065, D28065N, D28066N,
DWE46044 or DWE46066. It is a Type 1 guard for usage solely with
Type 1/41 wheels.
1. Depress wheel change release
button (N) and hinge open the
bottom half of the guard to the
farthest open position.
2. If not already loosened, loosen
the guard stop screw  (O) until
no threads are exposed on the
underside.
3. With the anti-lock backing
flange removed, open the guard
latch  (P). Align the lugs (S) on
the guard with the slots (T) on
the gear case.
4. Close the bottom half of the
guard until it clicks into place.

5. With the guard latch open (O), rotate the guard as shown in
figure  8. The guard body should be positioned between the
spindle and the operator to provide maximum operator protection.
6. Open the top half of the guard again, and tighten guard stop
screw (O). Turn screw clockwise
until fully seated onto guard
stop. Close top half of the guard
(U) again until it clicks into place.
Insure the guard is completely
closed and locked.
7. Close the guard latch to secure
the guard on the gear case.
NOTE: You should not be able
to rotate the guard by hand
when the latch is closed. The
guard is pre-adjusted to the
diameter of the gear case hub at the factory. If, after a period of
time, the guard becomes loose, tighten the adjusting screw with
guard latch in the closed position.
CAUTION: Do not tighten the adjusting screw with the guard
latch in open position. Undetectable damage to the guard or the
mounting hub may result.
CAUTION:If guard cannot be tightened by adjusting clamp, do
not use tool and take the tool and guard to a service center to
repair or replace the guard.
WARNING: Do not operate the tool with a loose guard or with
the guard in the open position. A loose or open guard cannot
protect the operator from broken wheel fragments, accidental
contact with wheel, and sparks that could ignite clothing.
8. To remove guard, follow these steps in reverse.
NOTE: Take care not to lose the guard stop screw (O) so it can
be re-installed with the the adjustable cut-off guard.
