12. MODE SWITCH AND INDICATORS
The MODE button switches the tuner into either
Search, Tune or Preset Modes. The current Mode is
indicated by the LEDs.
Search Mode will automatically search through the
tuning frequencies and stop when it finds a broadcast
station.
Tune Mode is for manually tuning in a radio station.
Preset Mode is to call up stations already stored in
the NAD-712's presets.
13. TUNE UP, DOWN
The UP, DOWN
buttons are used for tuning to
the required station and to select Preset stations.
In Tune Mode, pressing the
buttons increas-
es or decreases the tuning frequency. Holding the
button down will quickly scan through the fre-
quencies.
The CENTER TUNE LED will light when a station is
correctly tuned.
In Preset Mode, the
buttons are used to select
radio stations stored in the tuner's Preset memories.
14. STORE
Press STORE to program a Preset radio station
into one of the NAD-712's 19 AM and 19 FM Preset
memories.
To Store a station as a Preset, first tune into the
station's frequency using Search or Tune Mode, then
press Store once. The display will flash, showing the
station frequency and the current Preset number. Use
the
buttons to change the Preset number, if you
want to use a different Preset number to the one dis-
played.
Press STORE again and the station will be stored.
TUNING AM & FM STATIONS
The TUNE mode is used to select a known station's
frequency, SEARCH mode to automatically look for
stations that are transmitting on in your area. TUNE,
SEARCH and PRESET functions are available both
on the NAD-712's front panel and remote control
handset.
SEARCH MODE
First select the AM or the FM band using the AM or
FM buttons.
For automatic Search tuning press the MODE but-
ton until the SEARCH LED lights up. Press the
buttons to start the tuner searching through the fre-
quency band. When the tuner finds a broadcast
signal of adequate strength, the automatic search will
stop at that station. Press the
continue searching for stations.
TUNE MODE
First select the AM or the FM band using the AM or
FM buttons.
For Manual tuning press the MODE button until the
TUNE LED lights up. Press the

STORING AND RECALLING PRESET AM
& FM STATIONS
To store a station as a Preset, first tune the NAD-
712 to the required frequency using any of the
available methods (see TUNING AM & FM STA-
TIONS).
Press the STORE button. The Display Panel will
then flash for approximately 8 seconds displaying the
current frequency and a Preset number. Whilst the
display is flashing, press
Preset number if required.
Press the STORE button again, to store the sta-
tion's frequency as the chosen Preset. The NAD-712
will then revert to normal operation.
The Preset information will be permanently held in
memory unless you store another station over it.
To exit the Memory mode without storing a station,
leave all the controls untouched; the Store mode will
automatically cancel itself after 8 seconds.
RECALLING A PRESET STATION.
First select the AM or the FM band using the AM or
FM buttons and then press the Mode switch until the
PRESET LED lights up. Press
required Preset number. Each time these buttons are
pressed, the display panel will flash showing the
Preset number and the Preset's frequency.
CLEARING PRESETS.
If you want to store a new station in a Preset that is
already being used, just store the new settings over it.
REMOTE CONTROL
The Remote Control handset handles all the key
functions of the NAD-712 and has additional controls
to remotely operate NAD Cassette and CD machines.
It will operate up to a distance of 16ft (5m).
Alkaline batteries are recommended for maximum
operating life. Two AA (R6) batteries, should be fitted
in the battery compartment at the rear of the Remote
Control. When replacing batteries, check that they
have been put in the right way round, as indicated on
the base of the battery compartment.
For ease of operation, the main input selection but-
tons are coloured light gray.
Please refer to previous sections of the manual for
a full description of individual functions.
Note: The remote control handset supplied is the

NAD universal remote and can be used on any
remote controllable NAD system. Not every function
on it may be available on your particular unit.
