Testing
The full-face mask must be tested whenever it has been used, serviced
or repaired.
Test equipment and accessories: Testor R 53 400,
adapter R 53 345, exhalation valve plug R 53 346.
Visual inspection of speech diaphragm: See "Maintenance intervals".
Removal of speech diaphragm, see "Replacing the speech diaphragm
and O-ring".
Visual inspection of exhalation valve:
Remove protective cap from mask connector.
Pull one arm of the spring clamp outwards and
remove the clamp. Hold valve disc by the
nipple and lift out of guide. Valve disc and seat
must be clean and undamaged. Clean or
replace if necessary. Moisten valve disc with
water before refitting. The valve disc must slide into the guide under the
force of its own weight. Insert the spring clamp so that both clamp arms
engage at the sides. The spring clamp is marked with L = "left" and
R = "right" and is fitted at an angle.
Leak test: Follow the Instructions for Use of the test equipment.
Moisten the inside of the mask sealing piece with water and fit the full-
face mask to the test head, see "Fitting the full-face mask". Inflate the
test head until the sealing piece fits snugly all round. Seal the mask
connector with the adapter. Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar.
The full-face mask can be considered leakproof if the change in
pressure after 1 minute does not exceed 1 mbar. If not:
Test with sealed exhalation valve: Remove exhalation valve disc.
Insert exhalation valve plug and secure with spring clamp. Generate a
negative pressure of 10 bar. If the pressure change is less than 1 mbar
after 1 minute, remove exhalation valve plug, insert new valve disc and
repeat the leak test. If not:
Underwater leak test: Immerse test head with full-face mask in water.
Generate a positive pressure of approx. 10 mbar and slowly rotate the
test head underwater. Escaping air bubbles indicate the source of the
leak(s). Remove the test head and full-face mask from the water and
seal the leaks. Remove the exhalation valve disc and fit the exhalation
valve. Repeat the leak test.
Check opening pressure of exhalation valve: When using the
Quaestor R 54 300 test equipment, the opening pressure must be at
least 4.2 mbar with a constant flow of 10 litres per minute through the
full-face mask. If not, replace the spring and repeat the test. The
opening pressure must be at least 4.5 mbar when using test equipment
that does not permit this constant flow, e.g. Testor or Rz 25.
After testing: Remove the adapter. Remove the full-face mask from the
test head and dry it if necessary. Replace the protective cap so that it
engages.
Special Maintenance
Replacing the sealing piece or visor: Remove mask connector. Turn
the top right or left of the sealing piece forwards over the visor with
both thumbs and pull it out of the groove. Remove the steel wire from
the groove of the old sealing piece and insert it in the groove of the new
sealing piece. The connecting sleeve must be positioned bottom centre.
Moisten the groove of the visor and the bead on the mask body with
soapy water. Fit the sealing piece on the visor from behind. Fold the
sealing piece over the top of the visor (not the groove) and press it into
the groove in the visor at the bottom centre. The centre marks of the
sealing piece and visor must be aligned. Press the sealing piece over
the top left or right-hand corner into the groove of the visor with both
thumbs. The steel wire remains in the groove of the sealing piece. With
both thumbs, press the sealing piece over the top left or right-hand
corner into the groove of the visor. Check that it is centered. Align the
parts if necessary, taking care not to damage the visor. Never try to
adjust the sealing piece in relation to the visor when fitted; always press
one corner of the sealing piece out of the groove of the visor first before
adjusting it.
Replacing the mask connector:
Disassembly:
Remove protective cap.
1 Lift spring tab with a blunt implement,
e.g. extractor R 21 519 (only necessary
when replacing the visor) and
2 press the legs of the clasp first upwards
and then apart with the thumbs. Remove
clasp.
3 Press mask connector inwards, out of its
mount, and remove it from the mask body.
Assemble the full-face mask with a new mask connector or new mask
body.
Assembly:
Check the visor. The sealing surface must be clean and undamaged. Fit
clasp if necessary, making sure that the tab engages. Both sides of the
clasp must be open and not engaged. Check the mask connector. The
sealing ring must be clean and undamaged and must not be twisted.
Check that the inner mask is seated correctly. The edge of the inner
mask must lie in the groove all round. Insert the mask connector in the
visor and press it firmly into its mount until the edge fits flush all round.
Then secure with the clasp. The hooks must engage on both sides. Fit
the protective cap, ensuring that it engages securely on both sides and
fits snugly all round. Press the mask connector to check that it is
securely fitted.
Replace valve discs on control valves of inner mask: Pull old valve
discs out to the inside. Button new valve discs onto the pin, ensuring
that the valve discs lie flush all round on the inside.
Replace sealing ring: First disassembly mask connector. Pull old
L
R
sealing ring out of the groove and insert a new sealing ring. Then
assemble mask connector.
Replace speech diaphragm and O-ring:
Unscrew ring using socket wrench R 26 817.
Turn socket wrench over and carefully insert it
in the holes of the protective screen, taking care
not to damage the diaphragm. Turn speech
diaphragm to loosen and remove it. Remove
O-ring from connector with extractor R 21 519.
Check speech diaphragm and O-ring and
replace if necessary.
Replace exhalation valve disc: Refer to "Visual inspection of exhalation
valve". Fit protective cap so that it engages.
Replace inhalation valve or valve disc: Lift inhalation valve from seal
with a blunt implement or extractor R 21 519 and pull it out. Unbutton
old valve disc and fit new valve disc. Then press inhalation valve seat
with valve disc down to form a V around the circumference and ensure it
engages in the mask connector so that it lies flush all round. The valve
disc must not be trapped. The disc faces inwards, the webs outwards.
Only use genuine Dräger parts.
Always check for leaks again after performing maintenance and/or
after replacing parts.
Storage
Open harness as far as possible (up to pull tab). Wipe visor with anti-
static cloth. Pack full-face mask in its bag or a mask box. Store full-face
mask in a dry and dust-free place without deforming it in any way.
Storage temperature: –15 °C to +25 °C.
Keep away from direct heat and light.
